Having a late cancellation of another holiday to Fuerteventura, i shopped around and found a late deal to Olu Deniz, staying at the Hotel Karbel Sun.
On arrival to the hotel, the receptionist was very friendly and explained all the facilities the hotel had, gave us our room key and a card which is used to scan all of your food and drink purchases in the hotel, sort of like a tab. The hotel bag carrier man (i dont know what you call them) then carried our cases to our room and on doing so, looked like he wanted a tip by stalling for a while but then realised i had nothing to give him (sorry).
First impression of the room was that it was a twin room when we booked a double, also very basic (we had the standard room) just had the bare nessecities, one thing i would like to see changed are the bed sheets, they was like towels/bathroom rugs, very rough and wasnt very comfortable especially on a sunburn as i found out a few nights in. It was however clean with working aircon and a decent power shower. On complaining that we had booked a double at an extra cost we were moved to one for the second night onwards. The hotel staff were very apologetic and handled it very well, they did offer us the deluxe room for an extra 70pounds which we viewed, it was bigger with a sofa, flat screen tv, a fridge and better bed sheets, but we opted to stay in the basic double as i couldnt fit the extra cost into my budget. You are also advised to have a safe box located at the reception area, it is occupied 24/7 and you have to open it with a key from reception which you ask for plus your own, this costs £1 a day.
The hotel its-self has an open building top half which has the reception to your right as you first walk in which the restaurant opposite to the left, then leading down a small flight of steps leads you into some very nice gardens and walk ways leading to the different buildings that make up the hotel. Underneath the restaurant is the bar area, with plenty of seating, pool table, table tennis and a library. The pool is a reasonable size, it consists of two diamond shapes with a small bridge across the middle. The sunbeds here get snapped up very early, people start leaving their towels on these from as early as 7am, by 9am they were all gone! And we noticed that some of the people who had left towels were going out for the day and not even using them!
The location of the hotel is fantastic, its located at the top of the main strip which consists of many shops, restaurants and clubs. Here, its not too noisy at night and its not a too long of a walk to the beach, plus you have many things to look at as you're walking down anyway.
I can't really comment on the food as we only had breakfast here twice and nothing else, it was just bread, cheese, ham, fruit, and cornflakes.
I really do recommend not going all inclusive though as there are some really good restaurants with 5 star service and food, some of our favourites were the sultan ahmet (traditional turkish cuisine) buzz beach seafood and grill and belkeciz beach. Costs of eating out in the evening for the two of us with soft drinks mains and deserts cost about 70-90 lira, 25-33 pounds (12.5-16.6 each) which is really good value for what you get. In the day we had a favourite kebab place located on the beach front (ive forgot the name but its the first one as you turn to the right and walk along) they do lamb/chicken on pitta, wraps or bread for 6-8 lira, 2.2-2.9 pounds each.
Theres plenty to do and see in turkey, there are alot of shops selling excursions/paragliding. We went on the Dalyan trip and the Fetiyhe market/Ghost town which were both amazing. Paragliding = £65, most excursions range from £6-50 pounds each most of them including food, some are 2 day overnight trips.
The beach at olu deniz is really nice we spent most our holiday here, it has plenty of sunbeds and more space if you dont want to shell out 18 lira for a 2 sunbed/parasol set-up. The sea was pretty calm, clear turquiose and cool. Theres also the blue lagoon to visit, its a fair walk from the hotel but its worth it. You have to pay a small amount to enter, i cant remember how much but its not more than 5 lira each, aswell as theres sunbeds to rent inside which also costs 18 lira for a double sunbed set-up.
Overall it was a great place to stay and a really nice resort, you will love it!
