The Managers Henrietta and Yan were very responsive to our needs. They care for their staff and it shows that the staff loves their work. In addition to accomodations, we used their Spa, Diving crew, tour guide and restaurant while there.
We were in 114. Very comfortable bed and room. A pitcher of water is refreshed every day so we had plenty of drinking water. AC worked great. It was nice to have a rack outside the door to hang wet bathingsuits or diving equipment to dry off before the ride home. Beautiful ocean front view close to the infinity pool which was very relaxing to lounge at on either their comfortable lounge chairs or their shaded beds on either side of the pool. Great place to hang with cocktails.
The bathroom was entirely outside and is adjoining to the bungalow's bathroom next to the room but does have a high wall to separating the 2 outside bath rooms.
Perhaps this is traditional in Bali? Not sure. It wasn't a big deal since we were never in the bathroom the same time our next door neighbors were.
The other feature of an outdoor bathroom is an oportunity to see other life out there. A cool snail crawled along the top of the wall one time but mostly there were different types of bugs or just gecko poop. Not a big deal.
Very convienient and responsive. I ordered a massage an hour before dinner and even though the masseuse was off-site, she came immediately for the appt.
The room was clean and comfortable and the masseuse did a good job.
Diving crew was friendly and helpful for getting in/out of the boat (back roll) and handing camera off. Most didn't speak English but dive master did. We had a junior dive master. He knew where the residents hung out on the wrecks but I spotted more critters than he on the current dives.
Diving in Indonesia is different than anywhere else we just realized. Strong currents don't just go horizontal, they go up/down and change frequently on the same dive. I did feel mostly safe with the dive master although he lost us briefly on a very bad vis dive that apparently rarely happens. ...The first day we dove it was like a night dive. He did seem a bit bothered by bringing a flooded camera up although we weren't that far down before I realized it was flooded, and he was not helpful at all for a lost prescription mask.....just looking on the surface rather than taking a dunk under. ...Other dive masters have tried far harder to make these types of accomodations. Young guy though that I'm sure will get better experience as he progresses with his craft.
Lunches on the boat are handled by the staff taking your order the night before for a noodle dish or sandwhich. Always choose the noodle dish! It's the standard Indonesian breakfast/lunch cuisine and yummy.
Surface intervals are spent on the moorings catching some sun or eating their fresh fruit or homemade coffee type breads that are wonderful.
Water is handled in a cooler with cups that have numbers for divers that corelate with their equipement box numbers. Good system. I recommend bringing your own water holder to make it easier and more accessible.
Phenomenal. Order what you want for breakfast and they also had fruit and cereals to eat. They have different juice selections each day. Coffee is included but if you want cappaccino it's extra. I highly recommend it.
For breakfast....the Famer's Breakfast (Not Farmer) It's a mixture of scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, but something else that makes it special. It's excellent
Lunch we never had since we were on the boat.
Dinner....every single thing we tried was excellent The Seasoned Shrimp, all though some work to take off the shell was wonderful, We tried almost everything and loved it all. BEST EVER: Chocolate Crepes with vanilla icecream. To die for. Even when we thought we were going to try a local recommended dine out night we planned to come back for the crepes. Never made it though since the restaurant was so good.
The dark chocolate hardens over the icecream but remains soft and lucious on the crepes.
The last day there was special as it was the annual ceremony to pray to the gods for the safety of the resort and staff. All guests were invited to it and were offered a sarrong to wear as it is the traditional dress for these events for men and women. Henrietta explained what was happening during each activity of the ceremony (placing the offerings, priest blessing, traveling to each of the temples to place the offerings) which was very helpful. It was a wonderful experience. At the end we all enjoyed the Balinese pig roast with the staff. The managers make it a point to close the restaurant for any other business to allow the staff to fully enjoy the ceremony.
Tour Guide:
Henrietta indicated to me that she is sensitive to the fact that tourists that may not be familiar with the chaotic traffic in Bali prefer to have transports with seat belts that work so she makes it a point to only hire drivers that have them. We appreciated it. Despite the chaos there was only one accident we passed in the 4 days of traveling around. The tour guide she set us up with was most excellent. Nengah Kari (+62 819-1565-0188) Nengah made it a point of indicating he wasn't a guide since he wasn't certified but he accomplished all the tasks we were looking to complete on our tour: Go to NON Touristy (when ever possible) Temple, rice terrace, monkey location, coffee plantation, knife purchasing site, wood carving store, Water Palace, Heaven's Gate, and location to purchase a big duffle bag to bring back all the coffee, knife, Bali snacks, wood carving, etc. we brought back.
At Heaven's gate you get a ticket to line up to get your photo taken ....a 2hr + wait sometimes. We were 170 and were not interesting in the "Instagram" tour type pose in between the gate. Nengah was able to get us in a photo without anyone else in the picture without the wait. He took us to the location to feed monkeys and took photos of us at every site.
Tip: The monkey site was not the Ubud Monkey Sanctuary (another Instagram Tour location) where the monkey's are trained to take tourist hats, glasses, cameras so the natives can charge you for getting them back.
For lunch Nengah took us to a nice location overlooking fields and trees that had Bitang Radler orange beer. We grew quite fond of the Bitang Radler lemon beer at the restaurant and was pleased to see there was an orange flavor too.
Nengah knew where there was a village that sold knives. I wanted to purchase a decorative knife for my son that loves to cook. He helped to take me to 2 knife makers in town where I was able to purchase exactly what I was looking for. He helped me barter the price down as well since they didn't speak English. We got the bag and at that same location found a unique wood carving that we hadn't seen anywhere else. It was oversized and would need to be packaged well to take on the plane back. As it turns out, Nengah had a friend in cargo that was on the way to the airport. We secured hiring Nengah for our next day ride back to the airport and stopped at the cargo site where they packaged it extremely well with a wood frame, foam, and plywood. It made it through the flight to Bali -Dubai-Boston without any issue. It would have been $310 to ship via ship.
In any event...Lotus Bungalows came through on knowing who to call for guides.
I'm glad we selected them. My son was thrilled with such a beautiful knife that he'll have to cook with.

Lotus bungalows are a well managed operation, the food is excellent, the rooms ( 2 rooms in a bungalow ) offer sea view and the outside bathroom is very nicely made. Everything is not brand new, but everything works and is comfortable. Airco is silent and provides good sleeping, as well as the peaceful distance from the main road, which makes the sound of the sea prevail over the buzz from the street.

Breakfast as buffet is deliberately slim to prevent flies and food waste, everything desired is provided upon order and prepared quickly. The food is excellent and since you can not dive on a bali belly, its hygiene is of a very good level. Furthermore the Europeaan management is extremely careful with regard to allergies such as glutenallergy. We discussed this during our first visit and now during out second no reminder was required and everything was already set on point.

The pool is nice and the benches around it provide a good lounge experience after diving.

The diving with ganga divers is very well organised with precision. Lunch is provided on most ( longer ) trips. And the crew and local dive masters know the spots and create a safe dive. For each level of experience a dive can be organised, and the reefs around nusa penida are beatifull, tulamben with the liberty wreck provides a land based dives and padangbai provides very nice dive spots with many unexpected species like seahorses etc.

The fellow divers provide good company and the staff is open to adaption to special wishes.

We stayed in bungalow 112 that had beautiful views of the pool and ocean for 11 nights.
All of the staff were amazing from swapping emails before we arrived up until the moment we left. The reception/ office staff were really friendly and helpful and greeted you with a huge smile!
The bungalow was spacious and had a fantastic outdoor bathroom - although you do feel like you should have sun tan cream on to shower!
The bungalow was cleaned twice each day - while we were at breakfast and again while we were out on an evening. This was to a very high standard and little flowers were placed around the room and bathroom each day which was a lovely gesture. The water bottles in the room were also topped up without charge twice a day - this is excellent as we’ve always had to buy our own water once we’d finished the small ones you normally get in your room in most other places.
Breakfast was excellent - hot food cooked to order with the cold options on a buffet which was always topped up with fresh fruit and juices.
Beautiful view out over the ocean while we relaxed on the very comfortable sun lounges - sometimes we were the only people around the pool for most of the day as others went diving. The pool is lovely too and a welcome relief from the sun. Worth noting that it is quite difficult to get access to the small beach area - large steep steps which you can only use in low tide. But to be honest there’s only a small sandy area so go down in low tide for a dip in the crystal clear sea.
There are a couple of monitor lizards within the grounds which was great to see and a turtle popped up in the sea at high tide right in front of the hotel too most days.
We didn’t eat in the hotel on an evening as we like to venture out but we did enjoy a few lunches and superb fresh fruit smoothies in the restaurant - really tasty and value for money. Especially the freshly made pizzas!
We walked into town most nights - takes about 10-15 minutes. Plenty of places to eat and drink in town for those who like to see more than the hotel.
Candidasa is very clean and there is a real focus on reducing rubbish especially plastic which is great to see - we went to Lombok last year and the sea was full of plastic. We didn’t see any rubbish in the sea here at all! The resort even give you a fabric bag in your room and ask you to use this when shopping to avoid getting plastic bags - excellent idea!
All in all we loved Lotus Bungalows and we hope to return again soon.

Spent 12 nights in Lotus Bungalows. Friendly, hard working staff. Clean, simply appointed rooms. Love the fresh flowers placed in rooms daily. Outdoor bathroom was beautiful and serene. Close to ocean but no beach unfortunately. Gorgeous infinity pool with comfortable seating around. Nice restaurant with good food, good prices. Easy walk into town from resort. The scuba diving operation is exceptional. Great crew. Would highly recommend staying in Lotus Bungalows fow peaceful, calm holiday. You will be well cared for.

Room tip: Rooms closer to the water can be a bit louder (ocean sounds) if you dont mind that. It can be soothing actually.
