Great quality food and excellent service ; kitchen was about to close when we arrived but friendly waitress did all to accommodate us. Highly recommended

The venue is magnificent. The service is second to none. Awesome steaks. The outside area is very charming. The only reason we go to TFB is for the lamb rump. Last time we visited was 2 years ago... so when we ordered now we were quite surprised to see how different it looked. A lot of fat, almost cubed and too cooked and swimming in a soya sauce. The manager immediately changed it for a better cooked one. We then informed him of our previous experiences. He did acknowledge that the cut has been changed for a more fatty one. The meat was very tasty. But 50% of it was pure fat. He compensated by offering us delicious coffee and Dessert.
The complaint was swiftly dealt with, professionally explained.

Maybe the sauces recipes (Béarnaise, lemon Mayo) should be relooked at. They came warm and could not be called as béarnaise or lemon mayo.

Day 3 of our stay in the wine region and my boyfriend and I opted for this little gem... it had amazing reviews and we both fancied steak so we called them up and were initially told they were full, but that they would do some jiggers pokery to squeeze us in! Very accommodating!
When we arrived the restaurant was completely full so we were very thankful. They have removed a row of tables too to accommodate for social distancing guidelines and there was automatic sensor sanitiser on every table too so they’ve really gone the extra mile to keep everyone safe.

The outdoor area is really pretty but we sat indoors in the main dining room which is handsome and has good ambience. Our waitress was called Reetha who was friendly and highly attentive. We were also looked after by the I manager Sibu who gave us a great wine recommendation to go with our steaks as well as a dessert to share at the end. He also recommended various other restaurants in Cape Town since that was our next stop on our trip. We felt really welcomed and cared for.

We had fried calamari with Alioli Mayo and beef brisket in an Asian broth to share at the start! Both were sensational... the broth in the brisket I could have eaten as a soup on its own it was so delicious and the meat fell off the bone as you’d always want! Then my boyfriend has the 800g T-Bone steak (he’s a big guy!) with Parmesan mash and truffle mushroom sauce whilst I opted for a small 200g fillet with Fat Butcher chips and peppercorn sauce. We also shared a tomato and onion salad. Both steaks were cooked to perfection - succulent, juicy and soft! Ordinarily I would have been more than happy with my peppercorn sauce since, but as soon as I dipped a chip in my boyfriends mushroom truffle sauce I was insanely jealous! If you like truffle I wouldn’t hesitate to order it as it was soooooo good! There was a fight to the death over who would scrape their last chip around the small bowl!

We finished with a dish consisting of 4 filo pastry parcels with cinnamon and milk tart filling! Absolutely divine! We washed this down with a bottle of Pinotage - Lanzerac which was a perfect accompaniment for the steak. We also had a couple of shorts with mixers and a couple of glasses of frangelica and it came to R1600 / £82 before the tip! Exceptional value for money for anyone over from the UK as we are... that meal would easily cost £180 in a steakhouse of that calibre!

Amazing place. It was our first visited place in Stellenbosch and we really feel like going there every day of our trip. Ljda served us, a first class service, she is amazing!
Great variety of wines and meat. You cannot go to Stellenbosch without checking them out. And the place is soooo beautiful

The Fat Butcher is in an old house in Stellenbosch. The house is quaint with a narrow staircase & views out the window were of green leafy trees, & blue skies. (We sat upstairs.)

Service was good. We were greeted pleasantly & efficiently at the entrance & taken to our table. The waitress who served our food was knowledgeable & efficient.

Interestingly because of Covid, there were no printed menus & we had to scan a code to download a menu, & the code was printed on serviettes which we found rather novel.

I had a good craft beer, & my wife & daughter shared some wine. The ladies shared a carpaccio starter plus steak main. There is an excellent selection of steak on the menu, & our waitress brought us uncooked examples to view before choosing & explained the difference between different cuts. I had a burger.

Food was excellent & the price very reasonable. We had a great lunch, & feel the place is definitely worth a return visit.
