“A real surprise!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2012

I have visited Cape Town on many occasions and have always stayed in a hotel near the Waterfront. This location was a change and very central. This hotel was very good value for money. Huge Suites and very modern and exceptionally clean. The staff were very helpful and courteous. We tried to book back in for our last two days of touring the area, but unfortunately it was full up, so we ended up in another hotel nearby - and it was awful.

Room Tip: We were on the 6th floor and our room was just perfect for our needs.

Although the rooms are absolutely huge and generally presentable, I would encourage any visitors to Cape Town to avoid this hotel. We found the whole experience to be full of problems and hassle and was the only accommodation we had in two weeks which let us down.

The biggest gripe I had with this hotel was when we arrived back after dinner at 11pm and couldn't get in to the hotel through the parking garage. They evidently don't monitor the buzzer and we stood ringing it for 15 minutes (the front door is about a trek from the parking garage and I wouldn't have wanted to do it for safety reasons ) before I finally made the international phone call to the hotel to ask that they let us in. No apology and they in fact first told me they wouldn't be able to buzz us in, but soon did.

I also couldn't find a way to call down to reception (no instructions in room) so had to call the hotel's landline from our room phone. When I was billed for this, I explained there were no phone instructions in the room and was told "guests are supposed to be told these instructions when they arrive"....well, we weren't, and were still charged and received no apology.

The rooms were large and generally clean, but our shower didn't drain and after 5 minutes I was in ankle deep water which is quite gross. For something so simple, they managed to make the lights extraordinarily difficult to turn on and off.

If you're a business traveller I would imagine this is a decent location, but for a tourist it is definitely, definitely not. We stayed here because it was close to a wedding we attended, but now really regret not staying in Camps Bay or at the waterfront. It's right in the middle of the CBD and you feel you could be in any city, which is such a shame when you're in a city as amazing as Cape Town.

The Adderley Hotel is slap bang in the middle of Cape Town. Literally within 5 minutes walk of the Parliament and Company's Gardens and very close to Long St too, which is the main nightlife area in town. In terms of convenience, if you want to stay centrally, this is the place to be. It's perfectly safe by day and even at night we didn't encounter any problems, although if you want there are plenty of cheap taxis available (in fact, there is a taxi rank right outside.) Noise wasn't a problem for us as we were several floors up and the double glazing was effective.

Inside, the rooms (actually, suites consisting of two large rooms and two bathrooms) are of a very high standard indeed. All the fittings are modern and new. The bed was extremely comfortable. You even get two visits a day from the chambermaids - at night she comes in, closes the curtains, turns down the duvet and puts a chocolate on your pillow! You really do feel very looked after.

Although it is billed as a hotel and we paid for bed and breakfast, you could if you wanted treat the suite as a self-catering base for a longer stay, as you have a fridge, microwave, hob and cooking equipment provided along with cutlery and crockery. There's also a satellite TV with various channels available including Sky News.

The only slight quibble we had was with breakfast, where we always seemed to be having to ask for things - silly things like not having any spoons available or no sign of any coffee. These were just minor glitches really and the staff, who were friendly and helpful, were able to sort them out. There was a good range of food available for breakfast and when we had dinner one night, it was perfectly ok.

Parking is an extra R45 a night in a multi-storey physically linked to the hotel, so again, it's perfectly safe. But if you decide to do without the car for a few nights, as we did, you can use the open-top tourist bus which stops round the corner by the Anglican Cathedral.

The location really came into its own during our stay when we had a grandstand view of the State Opening of Parliament from the hotel balcony! A real bonus we hadn't expected.

I would highly recommend this hotel. It may not look all that much from the outside but boy does it make up for it inside. The comfort and space is second to none given the location and the price you pay.

I stayed here in January and February 2012. Both times I had lovely rooms. It is in a convenient location, the decor is modern and new looking. The restaurant is good and the staff friendly and helpful.

Spent 2 nights in a Junior suite. Spacious rooms with great views of the city. Huge bathroom and powerful shower. Free safe.
Very clean-couldnt fault them at all.
Staff very helpful and informative.
Ideally located for Long street, bars , restaurants etc.
The roof pool is great for cool dip after long day-Comfy sunbeds too. Dont expect huge pool-Just small dip-pool but clean and ideal.
Would recommend and stay again
Thanks v much
