“Jamie was a fantastic guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2012

We had a day trip round Stellenbosch with Jamie as our guide. He was very knowledgable and was happy to start from the beginning (for us wine beginners!) The wine was great and we learned a lot! Jamie was also very helpful in advising us of other great things we should see and do while we were in South Africa. A lovely day.

“Delicious, educational, and a wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2012

Ligia was my online contact who set up everything for us. She was courteous, friendly, and she was very interested in helping us pick the right tour. When she knew we were doing another wine tour, she was able to suggest something new and different: the Wine Tour with Peebles Project, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to helping the children of Africa with health and schooling.

We visited 3 wineries with our guide, a Xhosa woman, who answered our every question and was able to give us a general understanding of history, her culture, and issues that currently face South Africa. She was amazing! We leaned Xhosa, and we were able to learn about Xhosa culture, too.

The wineries were spectacular, and when they say that pinotage will be your new favorite wine, they weren't joking!

The money is worth the invaluable informative guide, being driven around (safely), and meeting the children of unfortunate circumstances. We had a BLAST playing with the kids, even though we didn't speak the same language. There were sad faces and hugs all around when we left.

I would highly recommend this company.

“Rely on your Guide!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2011

Two day trip into Stellenbosch with an overnight at the River Manor Hotel. Well, this was to be a standard trip to a decent wine region in order to broaden our own experience and buying capability during visits to the supermarkets! Initially, a poor start .... No transport and no guide at our hotel. After profuse apologies and the acquisition of a guide at the last minute Roger sorted us out, and how lucky were we - we were assigned David Wolfaardt!
David is knowledgeable, understated and caring for his charges needs. He also has the ability to rearrange the proposed schedule at a moments notice replacing visits with his own suggestions and his 'hidden gems' ... No clues you'll have to go with David to go off the 'beaten' track!
What a tour. Wines = awesome. Wineries = awesome. Area = awesome. OK, you're getting the message! Get David to take you to lunch at Clos Malverne (have the 4 course pairing lunch for R168 pp). Also get him to take you to Hempie's place - awesome atmosphere and beautiful wine which is definitely not on the commercial circuit!
Wine Desk makes the organisation easy and predictable. I didn't check with them the day before the tour and hd booked the tour in August (4 months) so I will give them the benefit of the doubt! Safe and secure way to book your trip beforehand.

“Best wine tour ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2011

The Wine Desk was cheerful & courteous to our last-minute call, and set us up with Jamie Greatorex, Mayor of the wine lands and recently of BBC fame. Jamie was the friendliest, most gregarious, most knowledgeable guide we could have asked for. Along with being a knowledge font on wine, sociology and national politics, he found us such bonus items as a chameleon, a dim-witted border collie and a great lunch place in Stellenbosch.

“Definitely the best day of our trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 December 2011

We planned a short trip to Cape Town and knew that a wine route tour was on the cards but we hadn't gotten around to booking anything. I did a quick search on Google and came across the Wine Desk website. We called them on Thursday 1 Dec and got hold of Ligia who was very happy to meet us at the ferris wheel at the V&A Waterfront and walked us to the information centre. She quickly booked everything for us for Friday (yes, the next day!!) and we met up with our wonderful guide Jamie Greatorex in the morning. The tour was fantastic! Jamie is incredibly organised and knowledgeable! The farms he selected to take us to were absolutely gorgeous, not to mention the delicious lunch at Jordan. We had an amazing time and I would 100% recommend Wine Desk for organising a tour through Cape Town - particularly the wine farms! I would also suggest you request Jamie as he made the trip such a pleasure!
