We began our three week safari in Capetown and stayed at the Welgelegen Boutique Hotel for four nights to set our "internal clocks" for African time (We traveled from the US). The hotel was lovely and cozy and the staff was just wonderful. We enjoyed our rooms which were spacious and had small touches like homemade cookies and port set out each night. We ate breakfast there each morning and walked to some of the best restaurants and trendy spots for lunch and dinner. Our view from our second story room was wonderful and our daughter had a lovely first floor room with small courtyard and Koi pond outside her door. We highly recommend this place and would go back without hesitation. As a heads up, Africa is known for rolling blackouts, but this hotel had everything running smoothly, including candle lit hallways and lounge areas where you could enjoy wine and drinks and catch up on the days activities.

Welgelegen is brilliantly located at the foot of Table Mountain and just a short walk to Kloof Street. We had a large room in the back house, the room opened up on to large verandah which was lovely to sit on after a long day of sight-seeing. The breakfasts were great, you couldn't ask for more. Fiona our host was very helpful and only to happy to book tickets for us for Robben Island, the Cable Car etc. With a four night stay we found it a very comfortable home away from home, the honestly bar in the evenings was also great. We found it easy to walk to Kloof Street for drinks and dinners and felt very comfortable walking back to Welgelegen of an evening. The hotel is a little tired but still worth the 5 stars for location, convenience, comfort and friendliness of the staff.

Our experiences were similar to other reviewers during a 4 night visit last month. Staff is very hospitable. The location is wonderful. Easy to get to, free parking on the street, and many restaurant possibilities within easy walking distance on nearby Kloof Street.

Fiona provided extra special service when we contacted the hotel after suspecting that we had left our Kindle reader behind. She responded promptly to our email and took the time to ship it back home to us.

A truly wonderful place to stay in Cape Town.

Room Tip: Room 5 had a nice view of Table Mountain

We had a lovely stay at Welgelegen back in May 2015.
The hotel itself is comparably small and really qualifies as a boutique hotel.
Interiour really delivers a spirit and such a nice athmosphere. The staff including owner was really kind and always happy to assist.
The rooms are decorated nicely and the hotel itself is just awesome.
Breakfast offers a great variety of tasty food.

Minor dowside was that it was quite noisy early in the morning. I assume due to the age the house in badly soundproofed.

Nevertheless, we can fully recommend this place. 5*
We will be back soon :)

My new husband and I had a fabulous 4 night stay at this beautiful guest house/boutique hotel. The hotel is in the less touristy part of Cape Town, near Kloof Street which is a hive of activity in the evening with great restaurants and bars and local prices!
On arrival at 11pm we were shown to our room by Alex who was friendly and welcoming. In the morning, the breakfast was lovely where you could choose from home cooked muffins, fruit and a cooked breakfast which set you up for the day!
You are a 10 minute walk down Kloof Street towards the centre and we felt safe both in the daylight, and in the evening. Fiona who manages the guest house arranged our dinner for the first and second night and we were happy to go with her recommendations (she has incredible knowledge) and the restaurants we ate out were incredible and great value for money (3 courses and wine for 2 for £50). On our third day, Fiona organised a bespoke trip for us as we lost a day in Cape Town due to our flight. It's very laid back in Cape Town. Our driver picked us up at 8 and returned us at 6.30 and the cost was £80 in total, for the 2 of us and we covered so much in that day. If it hadn't been for Fiona, we wouldn't have been able to see as much of this beautiful country.
Our favourite part of the stay were the little touches - the homemade cakes in the room and the loyalty bar as well as free port and use of the living room to sit and relax and listen to the music softly playing in the background. Thank you to Fiona, Simon, Alex and the staff. The hotel has great views of Table Mountain and I would definitely stay again - thank you for everything.

Room Tip: We were in room 1 as a honeymoon couple and it had a bath in the room - amazing! The rooms through the guest house to the back at views of Table Mountain - choice is yours!
