Rhodes Memorial has an interesting part in South Africa's history. The statue itself has been desecrated. Visiting the memorial is worth it to think about different aspects of the country's past.

We went for a quick hike from the Rhodes Memorial today to just below Woodstock cave. Since it's not the safest hiking route, I took my dog with. We did not visit the cave as the last time I went there it was not pleasant- I think homeless people sleep there and use parts of the cave as a toilet. My friend also did not have the best experience at the cave last time, so we skipped it.

Benefits of the hike from Rhodes memorial:
1. Good parking area, usually has a car guard on busy days
2. Clear trails
3. Perfect for quick hikes or runs as it has easy access from M3.
4. Has a restaurant at the start for the cool off. We had Rooibos cappuccino and Coffee milkshake- both were great.
5. Awesome for dog lovers- the dogs are welcome to the restaurant and get served water bowl and dog cookies. Dogs must be on leash.
6. Great looking monument on top of that.

The biggest concern is safety.

It’s located inside Company Garden. Huge statue for one of the founders of UN. Such a rich guide who used to trade in diamonds. He lived 49 years only.

Unfortunatley the Memorial is unkempt and some of the statues have been defaced "denosed", however, it is a part of South African history, so definitely worth a visit. The views from the memorial are amazing. The memorial itself is huge - much larger than I thought it would be. There are many stairs to walk so not ideal if you dont like steps.

It's close to University of Cape Town. I do not recommend walking the path to there alone, but in groups or by car. It is a place to spend few time. Just take beautiful photos and enjoy the city view. But behind it there is a great restaurant. Good food, good service and nice prices. It is a memorial to English-born, South African politician Cecil John Rhodes. But many students protest against that tribute, because he represent the white settlers.
