Owner description: This massive granite staircase memorializes diamond mogul and British imperialist Cecil Rhodes.

It's a lovely monument to a conflicted icon of educational endowment. He was generous with his money, but supported apartheid in his time. We visited shortly after students staged protests over steep university fee hikes; during the protests, the statue of Rhodes was vandalized, and now old Cecil has no nose.

What a pleasure to have a seat looking out over the city on a sunny winter's day in Cape Town. A great place also from which to take a long or short walk on the mountain, and to enjoy the fine cuisine with a view at the restaurant.

Another vantage point from the top by the Memorial and there's a nice little restaurant for a coffee or snacks. Haven't been lately as there are far too many steps to climb nowadays.

The views from Rhodes Memorial are really beautiful. The building itself is impressive. Sadly, some philistine chopped the nose off a statue of Cecil John Rhodes.
The tea garden has gorgeous views with the best cheesecake and scones
