We had originally wanted to go to La Colombe but decided to try the Pot Luck Club as the tapas style appealed and we were so glad we did book ahead from England.
The food was superb and so well presented. Very clever in that you think you are not getting much but each dish is so different, we had 7 dishes between us and felt full afterwards.
The sweetbreads would not have been my choice but my husband loves them and I have to say I really enjoyed them as well. The lamb dishes we had were excellent as well.
It is very trendy and the staff are really passionate about the dishes, explaining everything as it arrives. Our server was very busy and we asked another colleague a question and she said she couldn't answer as she was training! She did however go and get our server who was really friendly and insisted on ordering us a taxi and then had us escorted to it when we left.
Great range of cocktails - loved the elderflower and cucumber martini.
Our only one complaint was the poor lighting, we could not read the menus even with a tealight on the table! Resorted to mobile phone light! Felt stupid until we saw everyone on the next table doing the same!! We all laughed - great atmosphere as everyone seems to be there to enjoy the food and have taken the trouble to book well in advance.
We were amazed with how reasonable the meal was in terms of price.Wish there was one in London! But bet it would be 3 times the price!

We made a 8:30pm reservation, though didn’t get seated until after 9pm.

Our server was inattentive. Restaurant is extremely loud, people were yelling, and we couldn’t hear the server. We had to flag down other servers to order, to give us more water, etc. Mandatory included 12% tip is unfair considering the service we were given.

Worst of all, I had excruciating stomach aches and diarrhea a few hours after the meal. We ordered a few raw dishes which was likely the issue. Food was okay, nothing too special. Overpriced.

Positives: I enjoyed the restaurant setup and decor. The other waitress and waiters who filled in were nice.

Overall, it’s not worth the hype. You can find a similar restaurant in other major cities. Mandatory $50 deposit is annoying.

2 stars.

We were excited for the Pot Luck Club. It’s got one of Cape Town’s best chefs running the kitchen, it’s hip, it’s trendy, it’s tapas style, what’s not to like?
The service, that’s what! We were seated and then left to sit there and wonder what the go with the menu was. Do we order from every category? Is that a hot dish? Is it cold? How many dishes should we share between two people? You get the idea. Not one member of the waitstaff explained any of this to us. In fact, when we asked a waiter if we could order, his response was ‘I’ll find out who your waiter is’... not cool!
That aside, the food was pretty good here. I really enjoyed it. My wife thought too much of it seemed pre-pared but she still enjoyed it. Hopefully you get the concept explained to you though! Because of the small portions, it’s hard to see the value for the diner. Definitely a place to check out, but not Cape Town’s best.

My partner booked this as a brunch for us on a Sunday. **BOOK IN ADVANCE PEOPLE**

It is up the lift in the Old Biscuit Mill, the entire restaurant is small but surrounded by windows so no matter where you sit you get a great view. There was also live saxophone and trumpet players which I thought was a nice touch.

So this restaurant is a set menu place. There was so much food. Definitely do not eat before you go. There are 4 courses and dessert.

The food was amazing, a range of different styles and genres of food. Enough to keep even the fussiest eater happy.

I would definitely come back here again.

We booked a table the day the reservations opened for our chosen date and opted to sit at the bar. If you're eating as a two, do this. You get a wonderful sense of being in the kitchen.

We booked for 20.00, but I'd advise booking at 19.00 to see the service in full swing as by the time we were on our final main courses, the kitchen had already finished the final order so the second half of our meal was spent watching the chefs clean up and close down!

The restaurant space is amazing, completely different to anywhere else we'd eaten in Cape Town, and during the day you must get incredible views of the city and the mountain.

The service was excellent, they are really helpful with food allergies and the food itself was delicious with a good range of items to choose from. The beef, venison and fish tacos were outstanding!
