“Wonderful !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2011

We stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of our trip, what a start! Michael and Cherry were marvellous hosts, full of information on what to do in Cape Town. The room was beautiful, the breakfasts superb.
I cannot recommend more highly, a wonderful start to a lovely holiday. Thank you both.

I stayed at the Sundowner with my girlfriend for 3 nights during March and I honestly can't think of a single negative thing to say about the place. The booking was made for us less than a week before going by a friend and the owners, Michael and Cherry, couldn't have made it easier. On arrival there was private parking available for our hire car and Michael met us at the gate. He walked us into the guest house and to the lounge area where he gave us a very welcome cold drink. He then spent time showing us on a map where we were and where any local points of interest were. He asked what we were interested in doing and seeing in and around Cape Town and suggested itineraries that would fit everything in. He recommended several restaurants in Camps Bay for evening meals (if you're a fish fan, or even if you aren't, you must try The Codfather...superb) and in other towns for when we were out and about.

The seafront was only a ten minute walk down the hill and offered lots of bars and restaurants. A bit of a climb back up to the guesthouse afterwards but all the better to work off that fantastic food.

We stayed in the Seaview room and it couldn't have been more perfect. A private balcony offered a fantastic view of the Atlantic, plus you could also see Table Mountain and the top of the Cableway. The room was extremely spacious, very elegantly decorated (as was the whole house) and was very comfortable. Plenty of storage space, a safe, and a mini bar with very reasonable prices (10 Rand for a beer). The en-suite bathroom had a large shower and seperate bath and was very clean and spacious.

Breakfast was fantastic. Delicious home-made muesli and a fresh fruit salad followed by Cherry's superb scrambled eggs. There were also cold meats, cheese and pastries available. What more could you want?

Michael and Cherry were always on hand to offer great service and great advice for where to go and what to do, but were never too intrusive. They were happy to book trips and restaurants for us which was a great help.

I really can't recommend the Sundowner enough and would definitely stay there again if returning to Cape Town (which I hope to do as it was fantastic)

My OH and I stayed at Sundowner for 3 nights in March 2010 whilst visiting Cape Town. We were advised to stay in Camps Bay rather than in the City Bowl area by friends and it was a great tip. It is only a short drive or bus ride to the centre or waterfront but you have the perfect setting in Camps Bay for a relaxing holiday (including the fantastic range of bars and restaurants right on the beach.

The Sundowner is located about half way up the hill from the beach and it is about a 10 -15 min walk to the front. The view is perfect, a panoramic sea view to the front and table mountain behind. We stayed in a sea view room and the view was breathtaking. Our room was peaceful and beautifully decorated. If only I could have half the design skill that Cherry and Michael obviously have!

Cherry and Michael could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Michael is a font of knowledge who helped us with everything from ringing to check that the cable car was running to booking a table at a local restaurant. Cherry's breakfast was also a wonderful and healthy way to start the day.

We have already recommended Sundowner to a friend who is hoping to stay on her next trip to Cape Town

We had one night planned at the Sundowner and ended up changing our plans to be able to stay another night at this wonderful place.

From the first contact we made with Michael when arranging the trip to the email we recieved thanking from us for our visit after we had arrived back home we could not fault any part of our stay here.

We stayed in the Penthouse suite with its own private balcony overlooking Camps bay which was fantastic - the best bed we stayed in all holiday and wonderful contampory decor with every ammenity you could want for. Breakfast was indeed legendary as has been previously noted in other reviews but what really made our stay here was the overwhelming feeling of being made to be very welcome by Michael and Cherry. No request was too great, from recommending restaurants to booking taxis' to letting us stagger in at some on-godly hour.

If you are intending to stay in Camps Bay and are wondering which guest house to choose (there are many!) please look no further than Sundowner, having stayed in numerous hotels/B&B's in SA now this by far and away was the best.

Thanks once again.
Alex & Sarah

We stayed at the Sundowner for our last 3 nights in South Africa and after staying in some amazing places during our trip, we did wonder could the Sundowner keep up the high standards we had met. Immediately upon arrival on a very wet windy afternoon in mid November we knew that we had made the right choice! Michael and Cherry offered a very warm genuine welcome to their beautiful home. Set overlooking the bay the house was just fantastic, very well equiped and a very comfortable bedroom and bathroom. They helped us with restaurants, transport, advice, etc. Breakfast was a huge wellcome treat - fruit, breads and the best of the best in cooked breakfasts. You won't leave the table with space to eat another thing! Cherry was so obliging as she supplied the dream breakfast and her homemade muesli a dream! An absolute charming place to stay and enjoy the warmth of a welcome you wont forget. Thanks Cherry and Michael for all those magic touches that made our stay with you so memorable! Highly recommended!
