My husband and I stayed at Tshukudu Bush Lodge for 4 nights at the start of our honeymoon - and I can honestly say it was the most amazing place either of us has ever stayed and possibly ever will stay!

The accommodation is beautifully placed, and makes you feel truly immersed in the African bush! Our lodge was immaculately clean, a really good size and we loved the decor. We had a plunge pool and two sun loungers on a large balcony overlooking the plains and watering hole, which meant that even when we weren’t on a game drive, we could just lie back and watch the impalas chasing each other.

There is no denying that the stairs are hard work, but the view and the experience you get is 100% worth every puff!

The food was amazing! With the ox tail and springbok being particularly delicious and (having a very sweet tooth) the desserts were to die for. Breakfast and lunch/high tea were also really beautifully catered for.
We were there for the start of the winter season, so there were not many guests staying when we were (no others at all on one of the nights), so we were lucky enough to have private dinners, both in our chalet and around the fire.

All of lodge staff honestly can’t do enough for you, they were friendly and attentive the whole time and you really feel like your staying with friends and family, instead of being at a hotel (but with total privacy when wanted at the same time). The little touches like coming back to the room after a cold evening game drive to find a warm bubble bath and a roaring fire really added the wow factor for our stay.

Lastly, but most importantly the game drives and the incredible guides who took us on them. We went out with both Sean and Jann-Rick over our four day stay and they both provided us with unforgettable experiences with some of the most beautiful animals on earth!
We were so fortunate to squeeze in several close-up elephant sightings, an incredible leopard sighting, two amazing lion sighting - including two lionesses and two cubs on the lodge grounds and we even got completely road-blocked by rhinos on two separate nights! This is all on top of the zebras, giraffe, wildebeest and impala which you see both out on game drives, and from the lodge balcony! And not forgetting the dassies who lived in the rocks next to our lodge, and are truly adorable!!!
But even aside from those amazing sightings we genuinely had such fun on the drives and at our sundowners, listening to their amazing stories and learning all about the animals. Their endless enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for the bush and its animals was infectious, and we definitely had an even better time because of them!

I genuinely can’t think a single negative, other than it was so amazing that our expectations were too high and we were actually disappointed when we arrived at our luxury hotel in Mauritius for the next part of our honeymoon!
I honestly can’t recommend Tshukudu highly enough!!

When you book 130+ stairs seem excessive, but the view is to die for. The rooms are wonderful and the staff is friendly and helpful. In a small but well stocked game reserve.
You need to be able to navigate stairs and spend 8 hours a day on game drives. Highly recommended.

The personal service is 5 star , very private rooms with a view and private pool. the quietness of this remote setting is ideal for relaxation and very romantic. Ask about a dinner in the bushveld if group is large enough, We had Lion right near the resort , first day two lioness's and two cubs, the next a big male at the water hole . Elephants visiting and playing in the dam and a brown hyena near camp.

Room tip: there is a big stair way climb to the restaurant and rooms up top , if you cannot walk up lots of stairs , book rooms 8 or 9
