“WOW! What a find”
Reviewed 2 January 2011

We had had a bad experience before arriving at this beautiful place!
The rondavel accomation is first class. Large clean and very, very comfortable. Location fantastic- working farm- so a good few animals. Close the the Sabi river- walks through lovely Macademia farm & lime/lemon groves. (beware of the Hippo's!)
The frog chorus is amazing- can be a bit noisy!
The hosts are lovely, friendly and very helpful and accomodating.
The breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
All in all a great place to stay AND highly recommended to all types of travellers.

We stayed at Rock-a-Bye en route to Kruger and were absolutely delighted with our choice - highly individual rooms with stunning private balcony and wonderful views out over a lovely garden and farm (great for a walk). Very high quality B&B (but not expensive) which is a must if you are visiting Hazyview and want a lovely, very private high quality stay - breakfast was fantastic and very welcome as we hadn't had a very good meal the night before at the Ant and Elephant and had a long drive the next day. Highly recommended.

The rondavel was bigger than expected, it was romantic, ( candle above bath was a nice idea whilst soaking) practical, had kitchenette ( again bigger than you might think it is going to be) with fridge, micro wave , sink and plates, cutlery etc - outside barbeque. Breakfast on the veranda of the main thatched house was ample and varied, cooked to your choice as well as scones, muffens etc. Restaurant down the road was good - The Ant and Elephant -- lots of choice and a reasonable price. The hosts of Rock-a -Bye were helpful and friendly and gave us an easy to read map of things to do in the area and clear instructions how to get to Elephant Plains our Safari Lodge following our 2 nights stay with them. We would have liked to have stayed longer as there is a lot to do in the area ( we did the Panoramic drive through Blyde Canyon which was spectacular. Nearby there is an Elephant orphanage, umpteen oportunities for the more adventurous traveller -- raft trips, canyon swings, quad biking , hot air ballooning just down the road, as well as cultural visits to Pilgrims Rest and Shangana cultural African Village.
Rock-a-Bye is on a macadaemia nut farm set back from the road and there is plenty of space to walk around the farm and down to the river. We saw lots of monkeys here.

The accomodation is on a Macadamia farm very close to the Kruger National Park. One stays in a private luxury bungalow in the garden. You have your own veranda (stoep) to sit and relax and watch the sun set. The room had 2 beds and a sitting area and a kitchen with a fridge and coffe and tea (with small cakes) provided. The bathroom had an african shower and was clean and all the nessasry were provided. On the farm a path was designed to take to the river explaining all that you see on the way. At 17:00 some monkeys passed our bungalow swinging in the tree tops. it was quiet and relaxing (there is no tv in your room) and a real African luxury farm experience. The breakfast was so nice- from fresh fruit to ostrich steak! you had fresh scones and far too much to eat. The price was very reasonable for what you get.
