Skukuza Rest Camp
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Stayed 1-2 May, for one night, privately.

This was a first night in Kruger in 2017, and Skukuza Camp is the closest camp to Skukuza Airfield, so is a very practical first stop in Kruger. The camp is very big, with a broad specrum of amenities, so, also very practical from a "stocking up" perspective, at the start of a trip to Kruger.

Our two-bed bungalow was equipped with a verandah kitchenette, and had an en suite bathroom/shower/toilet. There was dedicated parking, and the raods and signage were good.

If you are not "cooking in", I can definitely recommend The Cattle Baron restaurant for dinner and breakfast!

Room Tip: Check whether your bungalow has a kitchenette attached

Stayed in a well appointed four bed-tent. It was a ridiculously hot night, 42 degrees but we had a huge outdoor aviator fan that did the trick, though it was quite noisy. The restaurant onsite was a delicious upscale surprise for a rest camp and the shop was huge and well stocked. Ablutions were conveniently close to our tent and very clean and equipped.

Room Tip: Choose the tent that is closest to the fence to be closer to nature and way from over enthusiastic c...

Skukuza rest camp is the biggest rest camp in kruger & with all facilities. The rest camp is inside the KNP & beautifully maintained with a variety of restaurants & cuisines even bars. Its like a big township inside the KNP.

The area is protected by electrical fencing

We booked one of the lovely 4 bedroom bungalows overlooking the river. While we were not lucky enough to spot any game from the bungalow, the creature comforts provided were amazing! Beautifully furnished and provided with daily maid service.
The camp has a huge shop and cafeteria and the outdoor restaurant overlooking the river is amazing at night. Do try the steaks!
Game viewing particularly along the road to Sabie is good with lions giraffe and kudos apart from herds of deer. Don't miss a visit to the bird hide near the camp as there is a large resident leopard frequenting it.
The camp also has the only Doctors in the whole of Kruger and they are amazing! They handled my problems so well.
This camp is a must stay.

Skukuza is probably one of the busiest rest camps in Kruger. The river view rooms are very good and worth the extra cost. Clean and tidy with good amenities. Rest camp staff are helpful and decent shop for provisions. Very disappointing service with surly staff at cattle baron which took the edge of the stay.

Room Tip: River view
