Our family loved the park. The park is much bigger than we first realised, spent over two hours walking around. Well designed and thought out. Great views over Pretoria. We went on a Sunday morning and where literally the only people there.

For a National Monument the signage is BAD!!! Not even Google maps can take you to gates. Not good!!!!

The site has been very attractively designed to commemorate all South Africans who have struggled for freedom and democracy. It includes a well laid out museum which provides a brief overview of the history of the country form the origins of the earth, through the peoples of the country, to about 1994, with the emphasis on apartheid and the struggle against it. although all the staff, including the security staff, were very friendly and helpful, we were not informed of the option to do an individual tour and so did the guided tour where we were the only South African visitors. The tour was interesting but the information provided was inevitably rather superficial as it was aimed at the foreign visitors, and there was not enough time to do justice to the wall of remembrance for instance. The terrain is beautifully kept and there are lovely views of the city from the koppie.

Definitely a must see for all South Africans, but please do it with a guide so that you get the full experience.

Food wasn’t great and the staff seemed confused and disorganized, however despite that haven’t stopped talking about it to people
