We booked a table at a restaurant for New Year's lunch. Upon arrival, we found the restaurant closed! So off we went to Montecasino expecting it to be very busy and hoping to find a restaurant that would take pity on four hungry people done out of a good lunch. After driving around in circles for ages looking for a parking and then almost getting lost in the maze of passages and stairwells that punctuate Montecasino, we finally found the entrance and there we also found Mythos. What attracted us was the beautiful decor and the fact that the restaurant was practically empty. As we walked in, we saw the Mythos deli downstairs with its array of mouthwatering goodies and that is when we knew, 'this is going to be a good one.' Service was efficient and friendly and the food was yummy. For starters I recommend the cheese croquettes and the calamari. Both to die for. The salmon salad was declared delicious as well but be warned the portion is huge. For mains, we had steaks which were divine and the Bifteki burger. My only complaint was that I asked for the burger patty to be well done and it was slightly underdone but still delicious. For desserts, we had the ice cream and bar one sauce and the Baklava - the best you have ever tasted, literally oozing with syrup The portion is large so if you are feeling stuffed, maybe share it with someone special:) A disappointment was that they did not have Loukoumades available. I think whatever is on your menu needs to be available for diners. All in all, a lovely eating experience. I recommend that you ask to be seated upstairs on the balcony where you can watch the world go by. We were treated to lovely music from a jazz band playing downstairs in the casino which drifted up to where we were seated. Mythos is not cheap but also not crazily expensive - for four of us the bill came to R1000 [with drinks].
