“Cozy surprise!”
Reviewed 23 August 2011

We were pleasantly surprised how nice this place was. This is what a B&B should be! It was clean, cozy, captured an amazing view of the Chugach Mountains, and the breakfast was delicious. The staff was very kind and the other visitors were very pleasant and interesting to speak with. They have a sun room on the roof that is perfect for a bottle of wine and snacks on a rainy summer evening. We had the whole room to ourselves to spend the long evening playing chess and talking. The rooms with a bathroom have a jacuzzi bathtub.

My husband and I stayed with our 3 older children (8-12) at Pioneer Ridge for 2 nights. We were in the McComb's room that is right off the entry. It was spacious enough for two roll-away beds, so we were all very comfortable. For even MORE luxury, next time we would stay in the Alaskan Heritage Suite (washer & dryer!) but our room was comfortable and clean.

We spent a day in Wasilla & Palmer, going up to the gold mine, the Ititarod Museum, the reindeer farm & hiking, all suggestions of the very hospitable hostess.

Breakfast was hot and served to all at a common table. Reindeer sausage was delicious, pancakes or French toast, scrambled eggs, fruit and coffee or tea. Also there was oatmeal, yogurt & dry cereal to choose from.

Highly recommend!

In the open space at the edge of Wasilla, 30 miles north of Anchorage, on the way to Denali, sits this former dairy barn -- with a late-addition, green-house-style cupola on top that serves as a common room for guests. Relaxed and friendly B&B hostess runs bookstore in town and has interesting, complex views on Sarah Palin, etc. Large rooms, Alaska-theme decorated, constant improvements. One thing they can't fix is wall between McCombs Room and Iditarod room are plastered with faux logs and they can't get sound-proofing between. McCombs Room is also nearest front door comings&goings -- and UNDER the greenhouse common room on top of the buildling. Very flexible with small children. Plenty of room to run around huge yard. Three-year-old visitor had been lent a tricycle that he rode all over. Breakfast not huge or fabulous but adequate. Seating at large common table. Very comfortable atmosphere.

Get the complicated directions.

My wife and I stayed in the Iditarod room at Pioneer Ridge one night on our way to Denali National Park. Our reservation instructions were pinned to the outer door at our arrival as the hostess was out. We found our room without a problem. The room, furnished with memorabilia from the Iditarod, and bathroom were spotless, spacious, and attractive. The large, airy ,common room was the site of a delicious and extensive breakfast buffet the next morning. Coffee and teas are always available. The only thing better than the accommodations were the stunning views. The innkeepers have done a wonderful job creating a cozy, comfortable inn with a the modern ammenities. We would definitely return

This is a great place to stay. We had the "Fishing" room. It was very large and spacious and the bathroom was more than ample with double sinks, shower and new claw-footed tub. HUGE central room with apple computers available for your use at two different locations. Excercise equipment, pool and game tables, nice solarium on top, and beautiful views. No TV's but we had our own laptop that we could watch a movie on at night. The breakfast was VERY GOOD. Eggs, meat, and pancakes that would best IHOP, with fruit, cereals and plenty of choices available. Nice coffee machines with different individual choices in cappachinos, etc. I can't imagine anything that was lacking in this bed and breakfast. PLUS the owner sat down with us in the morning after she had served breakfast and graciously answered any questions we asked - even some personal ones about her business.
