“Magnificent and luxurious location”

My husband and i have just returned from 2 weeks bali and 1 week in the tugu hotel in canggu.

Every positive revie about this hotel is so true and if anybody has found fault it is most likely the result of negative attitude by the reviewer, than realty.

Please have a look at the website to feel what i already miss...

The hotel is privat indonesian owned and one the most special hotels in bali. From the first second we met the driver at the airport we knew we were in for a treat. The food is amazing, delicious and so nice presented.

I recommend this hotel to every age and anyone considering a trip to bali!!!

There were many great things about this hotel, and it began even before we got there. We corresponded with Dewi prior to our arrival and she gave very good suggestions on how to maximise the short one night we were able to spend there. It gave us a hint to how much thought they put in everything they do to make the stay special.

Apart from the little details such as our names at the table and the flower arrangements, I was also impressed to be offered insect repellant during our al fresco meal. I think it shows the level of thoughtfulness they put in everything they do. Also for our complimentary ride back to the airport they sent us off with a little care pack of fruit and water for the trip.

We chose the ground-level Dedari Suites for the plunge pool which we thought our 3-year old would enjoy more than the sunken baths upstairs in the Rejang Suites (she did). We got to take a peek in the Walter Spies Pavillion and it is really really special.

We'll like to extend our appreciation to Stephanie, Uci, Komang Nuri and Kadek for a truly special time there. We hope to be able to come back for a longer stay soon!

Things not to miss:

Stephanie's personal tour of the hotel - gives such deep appreciation of Balinese culture and history.

A meal - actually, make it every meal - at the Tugu. Once you've booked the location, you have it just for yourself. We had dinner at Waroeng Tugu, a very mystical experience dining under the stars in ancient street-dining style. Breakfast was a peaceful event on the beach, watching surfers and our daughter play with sand. Food was delicious, service was excellent. No wonder they are mentioned in the Miele Guide.

So we traveled from India (Chandigarh) with our little boy of 5 years for a week's stay in Bali. We booked into 2 resorts, this was the first. Stayed 3 nights here 16-19th June, 2012.

We had a private pool villa and I loved the room. The villa pool was scarcely used as our room was right by the main pool and we'd end up there only. The pool area and the hotel gardens are beautiful. The water was cold but heated up in the evening. I'd strongly recommend slight heating of the water even in the mornings especially when the hotel has water heating facility.

The location is a little offbeat from regular tourist areas. Its far from Kuta etc but close to Seminyak which was again beautiful for evening strolls etc. Although the hotel claims free ride to Seminyak, the taxi was unavailable for us as they have only one car and it was off to pick some guests from the airport. This happened twice. But considering the cheap taxi fares in Bali it really was not an issue.

The resort is just almost there at the beach and the service was great even at the beach. The beach in itself was not too great though. Very strong current and really popular as a surfing beach so our son couldn't go much in the sea. However, we had our dinner by the beach on the last evening and loved the way the hotel did it for us. Highly recommend the experience :)

The spa was great too and definitely worth the indulgence. Enjoy the place.

This is one nice hotel. We first stayed on the second floor room that had a nice view of the ocean across the street. A narrow balcony that went the whole length of the room and had an outdoor round metal tub for bathing. When I noticed we actually booked a pool suite we changed to the first floor with outdoor plunge pool. This suite was larger and surrounded by a koi pond. The tub/shower was outside but very private. The pool was not heated but I guess due to the sun was acceptable to lounge in.

The staff was excellent and very attentive.

The main pool is large and warm. Great for doing laps. On the beach they have a space set aside for guests with beach chairs and tables plus a security guard standing watch. Only thing wrong with the location was the small stream that flows into the water. After a rain we noticed a lot of trash emptying into the water. I did not swim in the ocean after that.

Things that needed improvement:
Since this hotel is out of way you will need to take the courtesy shuttle into town but pay your own way back. Most of the times it was already booked for dinner time so they would hail us a cab. It was around 45-50K for a one way trip.
The food.. cold and unappetizing. Their menu is like a book and makes the dishes sound mouthwatering until you try them. The entrees were on the cold side, bland and boring for my tastes.
The pool villa needed to be refurbished. It was getting a little threadbare in places.

When I visit Bali (which is atleast once a year), I normally stay at hotel Tugu. Recently I was invited to a wedding in Bali, where accommodation was organised. It was at a 500+ room 5star hotel. Noisy, joint family groups, kids running around.. it was hectic, and really stressful! Everywhere you went there were people! Very quickly (at check-in) I realised that this is not a Hotel Tugu. I love staying at Hotel Tugu because of the romance, exclusive feeling and personal touch it provides for you. The art and creativity is "one of a kind", one that you wouldn't see in many places of the world (unless you know somebody locally who knows the town inside out). With the romance it creates, the great food and unique art, Hotel Tugu really has that "wow factor". If you don't know a local in Bali and is spending hours searching for the perfect accommodation, take this recommendation as like it came from "a local".
