Our first visit to Ft. Seward was on June 2010, we then fell in love with Haines and therefore checked the condos for our next visit. On August 2013 we stayed in Ft. Seward Condos for 3 weeks and this summer on August 2015 we'll spend there a full month.
We stayed in apartment #2 which includes a specious bedroom + a very comfortable leaving room + a full equiped kitchen. The location is great and the view from the windows as well as from the relaxing porch is wonderful.
Above all is Annette, the owner of this amazing property. She is very helpful not only in this apartment but also in all issues regarding Hines. Thanks to Annette we socialized with her other guests and became friends with some of them. She made our stay unforgetable.

Breathtaking doesn't quite say enough about the view from these rentals in the gem of a town, Haines. Sitting on the porch enjoying the snowcapped mountains reflecting the afternoon sun while the kids played on the lawn was beyond perfection. The location just outside the center of town (a beautiful and convenient walk to restaurants, a market, and a fantastic library) is great. We were traveling with our two young children, and the condo was wonderful. It had everything we needed, including washer and dryer, free wi-fi, stocked kitchen, and even a pack-and-play bed for the baby! The managers live on-site and were ready and able to help with anything we needed (including recommending a great babysitter.) This is a fantastic place to stay in a really adorable town. I still dream about the smoked salmon and dill pasta from Fireweed Restaurant next door. And if you want to take a piece of Alaska home with you, don't leave without some beautiful handcrafted native art from the SeaWolf art gallery at the bottom of the hill, or some smoked halibut from Dejon Delights.

Room Tip: The upstairs condo we had was perfect for our family, with a separate room for the kids, and a living room to play in. The downstairs condo (we peeked…) was really nice too- and perfectly suited for a couple on a romantic retreat, with a lovely living room that looked out onto the amazing view of the water and mountains and a nice queen bed.

As a group of 7 women friends, we had a delightful five-night stay at the Ft. Steward condos. Five of us stayed in the 3- bedroom unit, and two stayed in the 2-bedroom unit next door. We shared the beautiful front porch with the amazing view (and felt like locals, as people from a some cruise ships walked by.) The apartments have a lot of personality - a little old-fashioned, but well equipped and comfortable. (I would recommend the owners replace some of the bed linens and blankets which seemed particularly well-used). The units are filled to the brim with family art, wood carvings, photos, and memorabilia from the family members who originally purchased the property and became influential community leaders in Haines. It's a fantastic location to walk everywhere in town and explore beyond. Annette, the proprietor, was very gracious and helpful - even inviting us to share evening cocktails on her lawn. Haines is small-town Alaska at its best, and the St. Seward Condos were definitely part of our very fun and enjoyable time there.

As an Army brat, I love to find decomissioned military bases when I travel. Ft. Seward is one of those special places. The condos are in former officer's quarters, overlooking the parade grounds and the incredible Inside Passage fjord. Traveling with a teenage nephew, I knew it would be important to have a kitchen and 2 separate bedrooms. Extended family stayed in other locations in Haines, but we all convened for a meal or two in the spacious kitchen that had everything we needed. A major plus was the washer and dryer shared by two units. The master bedroom was sunny and spacious, the living room comfortable with a fought-over recliner and TV. It also had a game of chess, which was more coveted than the remote. The second bedroom was small with a single twin bed, but made up for it with a view of the fjord.

We could watch the cruise ships come and go. Our favorite was the intimate "Uncruise" line, which are small vessels -- 40 passengers on the one we say that specialized in eco travel, including kyaking and hiking.

Haines is small and captivating. We were an easy walk from restaurants, shops and museums. The town library is not to be missed. We only rented a car one day to explore the wildlife rehabilitation center and eagle preserve north of town, which is well worth it. A day trip to Skagway and the White Pass express was a highlight. My nephew and daughter had a grand time floating down the alluvial outflow of a glacier. I hadn't thought that Alaska was on my bucket list, but it is now.

Annette, the proprietor of Ft. Seward condos is a member of one of the families that is dedicated to honoring the military history of the base. She is wonderful--attentive without being intrusive. If Alaska calls to you, or even if it doesn't, you will always treasure a trip to Haines and Ft. Seward Condos.

This is our second time to stay at Ft Seward Condos. We love the space, view and location. it is a good spot to be able to have a full kitchen and eat in if we choose. We plan to return here and bring our guests next summer. The innkeeper Annette is a long time Haines resident and most friendly and accommodating. It's fun to learn the history of these historic homes.
