“Authentic Alaskan experience”
Reviewed 27 July 2016

We stayed here for just one night but loved it. Our room was in the far corner of the main lodge. It was a large, clean, comfortable room. The house is just as described: historic Alaskan lodging. It felt like I was staying an my great-grandma's house...and that's a good thing. It felt homey and comfortable. A great value. Continental breakfast at the restaurant a few steps away was great. This was the last night of our Alaskan adventure and we're glad we spent it at the Gakona Lodge.

But you will enjoy some basic old comfort in the Alaska country beside a river. There is nothing for miles around and pre plan your evening meals before coming here as there is not a restaurant 365 days of the year. EXPENSIVE

Thank you for sharing your lodge with us. We found our room to be clean and neat and the price very reasonable. Your continental breakfast was way sufficient (didn't have lunch) and the setting very Alaskan (that's a good thing). The staff was very kind and helpful so thanks again.

Stayed two nights during 4 week road trip. Had two nights in two bed cottage. The one bedroom cottage next door was booked. Cottage is rustic, clean and comfortable. Ideal to rest up after a long road trip. Location ideal by the river.
Restaurant and bar serve good home cooked food, best meat loaf with simple vegetables we have had in a long time.
The bar is a gathering place for the locals and is a great place to meet and talk to the real Alaskans.
The road house is run by a charming family who are most helpful.
To sum it up it's no frills good honest accommodation at a reasonable price. Would definitely stay again if we were up that way.

I recently visited the Gakona Lodge while on a hunting trip in nearby Copper Center. The owners Cliff and Rebecca are great hosts and will make you feel like family.
Although I did not stay in the lodge, as I had accommodations elsewhere, I did tour the rooms and common areas, and found them spotlessly clean and very nice.
After purchasing several items in the gift shop, I went next door and enjoyed a fine meal in the restaurant. The food was magnificent and the view of the Gakona River that flows along the backside of the property is amazing.
After our meal, I headed over to the tavern, which is located between the lodge and restaurant. This is a great place to sit back relax and have a drink with the locals. Enjoy a game of darts, pool or just spend time looking at Alaskan pics and relics.
We then left for a guided fishing trip with Matt, one of Gakona Lodge's fishing guides. All of our gear was provided and was top notch. We all caught fish and had a blast! The trip would have been worth the price just to enjoy the scenery on the float down. We came out onto the Copper River and floated many miles down to the pick up point. Along the way, in addition to great fishing, we saw countless bald and golden eagles and even caribou swimming the Copper River in front of our raft! This was an experience of a lifetime. If you are in the area, give these guys a try, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Gakona Lodge for an awesome Alaskan adventure.
