Loved my stay at the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort. I was in an overwater bungalow, and I think I had the best room location in all of Aitutaki. It was amazing to wake up each morning to the views of the lagoon, and climb down into the water from my balcony for a swim. The staff at this resort was equally amazing - they were all so kind, and made me feel like I was right at home. I did a lagoon cruise, and it picked me up right from the resort's bar deck - which was super convenient! Would definitely stay here again!

Kia Orana Traveltrotter50,
Thank you for your very positive review of your recent stay at our 5 star adults only resort. Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort is the best located resort on the magnificent waters of Aitutaki lagoon and is the only resort to have overwater bungalows. The overwaters are our most popular bungalows and as mentioned they have stunning views of the lagoon and you have direct access to the immaculate water by way of your private swim up platform. Our wonderful staff are so often praised for going “above and beyond” normal service standards and are always happy and friendly going about their daily duties.
A lagoon cruise is a must whether it is a full day or a speciality trip and our cheerful front office staff are only to pleased to assist with your reservation or any enquiry. Thank you again Traveltrotter 50 for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to our Island Paradise.
Kind regards,
Mark, Sue and the Team

Their is a lot of conjecture in reviews about whether this resort should rate 5 star. In my opinion it is a good 3.5 star resort in a 7 star location, averaging 5+ stars! If you come here expecting an international brand , generic, glass, brass and marble style resort you will be disappointed. If you are hoping for a relaxed island experience in one of the most stunning locations in the world, then this is your place. What you get is a modest thatched bungalow complete with gekkos and chickens scratching at the doorstep. It has a fun private outdoor shower. All rooms are on the water, you step off your deck onto the sand.
It has the best location of any resort on aitutaki, the only resort actually on the lagoon, most are over the far side of the island, not even within walking distance. The location makes it fully worth the price.
The islander staff are fantastic, though things like housekeeping tend to get get done in island time, probably more my problem than theirs, after a couple of days you unwind and don’t notice. Special mention goes to Fa...at reception, she seems to run the place, makes all your bookings and arrangements, she is amazing at her job, could work anywhere in the world.
It’s adults only, no children to disturb the tranquility! Also appears very uncrowded, although near full capacity.
The bar on the beach serves a delicious lunch and cocktailsin an outstanding setting. we didn’t like the atmosphere in the main restaurant so much and thought the meals average and pricey. There are a couple of good alternative eating places just over the channel, within easy walking distance. The main restaurant serves a basic but perfectly fine breakfast.
All the activities are complimentary, which is fantastic, kayaks ,snorkels, paddle boards, board games. And push bikes, which we loved.
Overall I would highly recommend staying here, if you’re coming all the way to aitutaki, it would be disappointing to be in any other resort, all so far from the amazing lagoon. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.

Kia Orana Wendy C,
Thank you for your review on your recent stay at Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort. Our adults only 5 star resort does have the best location in Aitutaki and each bungalow is ideally located to capture the magnificent views of the lagoon. Water is at your doorstep, or in the case of the overwater bungalows, under your swim up platform.
All our bungalows have a unique and private outdoor shower and they are designed to reflect a tropical ambience. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help and it was pleasing to read that Fa impressed you with her professionalism.
Afternoon cocktails on the Flying Boat Beach Bar and Grill deck are a highlight for everyone and especially at sunset when the colours of the evening sky are often reflected on the lagoon’s pristine water.
Our activities hut is conveniently located close to the water’s edge and has a good selection of water craft whilst the bikes are well used by those who wish to explore the island or in many cases ride from their bungalow to other locations around the resort.
Thank you for highly recommending our Private Island Resort to any future travellers to Aitutaki and we look forward to welcoming back to our Island Paradise.
Warm regards,
Mark, Sue and the Team

We had a short but lovely stay at this resort!

We were picked up at the airport with a shuttle (very overpriced) and was escorted to the reception area. There we was greeted by the owners itself which was a real nice and personal touch. After that one of the staff took us to the bungalow. We had a beachside bungalow which was lovely, however we was on the wrong side of the lagoon when it came to the view, so next time we might change that. The bungalow was spacious and nice! However we didn’t have any WiFi and only 1 channel, but since you are in paradise we didn’t really mind and enjoyed the opportunity to focus on each other.

The lagoon is simply breathtaking! It’s so beautiful you just have to dive in! You rented a cajak free of charge, and when to some of the other small islands for a swim. It was my best memory from the entire trip! It was so beautiful and peaceful, and since this is a private island you almost feel like you are alone in the lagoon.

We particularly enjoyed that this is an adult only resort!

We dined in the restaurant 4 times, the food was very good, however they do run out of things if then which is bad for a 5 star resort. They also have a small menu so if you are dining with them for a week I think it might get a bit boring. However for us it wasn’t a big deal. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, especially if you are lactose intolerant like me, but you can order other hot dishes but then you have to pay.

All in all we had a lovely stay, and we felt the staff was 5 star, always super friendly, always wanting to make sure we had a great experience and willing to help out if needed.

I only have to negative things to mention, the first is that the shuttle is well overpriced. The other one is their “sister” resort, the Rarotongaan beach resort. I don’t understand how the can cooperate with such a horrible resort. We stayed there and had a horrible stay, and a completely different experience. The staff was rude, the rooms and linens was dirty, and the resort is falling apart. My recommendation is to get out of that collaboration if you can!

However, we loved our stay with you, and we hope to visit you again next year!

Kia Orana May L,
Thank you for staying at Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort and writing your review on your recent visit to our adults only resort. It is pleasing to read you found the welcome and orientation of the resort very good and the size of the bungalow impressed you very much.
You have highlighted the most memorable experience of everyone who visits our resort and that is swimming and relaxing in one of the world’s most beautiful lagoons. It is not only fun to kayak to the nearby islands but it is also an excellent way to view the many brightly coloured tropical fish and various types of corals.
Your comments on your dining experience are appreciated and I will discuss with chef more options we can provide on our tropical breakfast buffet to cater for lactose intolerant guests. Our staff are just one of the resort’s best assets and they thoroughly enjoy interacting with our visitors and providing friendly and excellent service.
Just one correction to your review May L, you mentioned there was a fee for the airport shuttle but this is incorporated in your package and is complementary in Aitutaki.
Finally thank you again for your positive review and we look forward to welcoming you back to our Island Paradise.
Warm regards,,
Mark, Sue and the Team.

My partner and I stayed a couple nights in an overwater bungalow and then our last few nights in the Pool Villa. Both accommodation options were gorgeous and it was great to be able to experience both. Flying into and out of Aitutaki was the most jaw dropping scenario I have seen in my life. Absolutely beautiful location, very friendly staff. We went March 30th - April 5th, gorgeous weather, the resort was verrrryy quiet from my pervious travel experiences (example a resort in the Caribbean) which meant no fighting for beach chairs, no fighting for kayak or paddle board 'hire' it was very romantic and an absolutely one in a kind place to escape. Highly recommend and to get the full experience travel out of wet season because when the sun hits the lagoon its the prettiest thing you've ever seen.

This resort is on a small island near the northern tip of Aitutaki Island where the airport is located. A vey short very ride of 1 minute and you are there. Stayed in an overwater bungalow. Externally, the bungalows need work, as does the deck, stairs and the swimming platform. Internally the bungalow is spacious and well laid out with a great outdoor shower. The view is sensational and the lagoon is something to behold. Have been to Tahiti, Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu and Vietnam beaches. With the exception of Bokissa Island in Vanuatu, they do not compare to Aitutaki as a true tropical paradise.
This place is nothing short of paradise. The saying in Cook Islands is " Aitutaki is paradise and Foot Island is heaven". Foot Island is a tiny island in the lagoon.

The food is good, the staff fantastic and the atmosphere is "island time". Be aware it is expensive to eat and drink. A dinner for 2 with drinks and wine will set you back $NZ100.
The water is warm and clear, Snorkelling is great for fish but the coral, sadly has suffered a lot of damage as result of chemicals used in the 1980 and 90's.
Make sure you do the Te King snorkelling tour - an absolute must.

If you do nothing else in your life you must go here.

Room Tip: Get an overwater bungalow. The cost is worth it!!!

Kia Orana Chris and Linda,
Thank you for your review on your recent stay at Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort. It is truly one of the most magnificent locations in the world and we are blessed to have the lagoon at our door step. I appreciate your comments on the overwater bungalows and I can assure you that it is a priority for our maintenance team to address this ASAP. I am pleased to read you enjoyed the food and you found our staff fantastic. Teking tours conduct a very good snorkelling tour and with good marine management we will be able to maintain and improve the environment. Again thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to our resort.
