We've eaten at this beautiful restaurant in the Alta hotel several times for both breakfast and dinner. Most of these meals have been among the best eaten anywhere. Unfortunately, our last dinner experience did not quite live up to previous visits.

We ate with our adult sons and dinner started off well enough. As other reviewers have mentioned, service is very slow, but this is a white tablecloth restaurant, so I do not expect to be rushed. However, this stretched just a little too far. Our waiter would disappear and someone else would come out to attend to us. Dinner was very good (we had fish and lamb chops at our table), but the fish was served with the sauce on the plate as a garnish, with nothing on it, and it was slightly overcooked. The guys enjoyed their lamb.

We did not stay on for dessert as a large party was seated next to us and one of the patrons was wearing excessive cologne which caused my husband to feel ill. When my husband said something to the waiter, I don't know if he didn't understand or didn't know how to handle the situation. As the rest of the restaurant was practically empty, I'm not sure why were were seated on top of each other.

Breakfasts were good, but although the food was essentially the same each day, it looked slightly different. I wonder if the waiters plate their own food? Unfortunately, our favorite waiter, George (who has been there for years) was off when we dined there. He was there upon our arrival for wine and tapas and everything was superb! We missed him the rest of our stay.

Lovely restaurant! Started with wine and tapas. For dinner we had the sea bass and tenderloin. Both meals and service were excellent! Wait staff super nice and accommodating. Absolutely beautiful view. The hotel that the restaurant resides in is also a gem. Check it out!

This is more like a French fusion cuisine restaurant with very fancy decoration in a hotel.
Food is great, prices are fine.
What we didn't like was all the stairs we had to step to get to the restaurant.
Besides that, this is the most romantic restaurant in my opinion.

We enjoyed both a romantic dinner and a quiet breakfast at La Luz while staying at the Alta Hotel. Stylish decor, remarkable lighting features, overlooking a beautiful, grand Guanacaste tree...looking forward to planning a large dinner party under this venerable old tree one day!

LOVED the avocado and hearts of palm salad and my entrée, a humble chicken dish with citrus sauce, was the most succulent chicken either my husband or I have ever experienced. Many thanks to our waiter who recommended it and the lovely basil creme brûlée. Truly a meal to remember with great fondness.

Staying at the Hotel Alta las Palomas, we had dinner and breakfast at this restaurant. The food was very good, especially at dinner with proper size portions (i.e. not massive US sizes!), presented nicely and tasted great. The only issue was the waiter service. Slow to take orders, very slow for drinks to arrive and never asked if we wanted more drinks, slow to top water up etc. We had a general feeling that the restaurant was trying to be pretentious and posh rather than just an excellent restaurant with great service and super food. The manager was very friendly and came across saying hello to most tables so I hope he can make some changes to ensure service matches the food.
