This hidden gem is absolutely wonderful. Awesome food, and awesome staff. The on-the-water setting is fantastic.

I was on a calypso cruise excursion to Tortuga Island and we stopped here for breakfast before boarding our boat. breakfast was traditional Costa Rican fare (Gallos Pintos = rice and beans, Maduro = caramelized plantains = MY FAVORITE, fresh cheese, and two mini tortillas). Beforehand, we got a plate of fresh fruit (Sangria = watermelon, papaya, and pineapple) and it was all safe to eat! We also got a choice of water, orange juice, and coffee. I went with just water and I had no problems because it was clean! It was an amazing meal!

We go there for lunch and dinner often. The service is great and the food is awesome! It is a little on the expensive side, but don't let that scare you. Treat yourself to some good food in air conditioning. A rarity in Puntarenas. Most items on the menu are less than $15.

The great reviews El Shrimp Shack received on Trip Advisor were spot on. We went for early lunch and found a clean and hospitable establishment. The food was outstanding, although probably a bit more expensive than some of the lower end establishments closer to the beach - cleanliness and service were worth the difference. We tried the Shrimp "Mexicana" and the Curry & Coconut Sprimp. Both were accompanied by rice and a shredded carrot and zucchini salad, which was quite tasty. The inside is pleasantly air conditioned; it had rained and the deck was closed for eating, but open for viewing the fascinating fishing operation going on next door. The peninsula is narrow and El Shrimp Shack is an easy walk from the cruise ship pier; opens for lunch at 11 am.
