One-of-a-kind location and experience. Located on the very edge of one of the most amazing rainforests in the world, yet with complete comfort. A perfect balance of being treated like family, yet left your own devices. The owner has taken great pains to build up a clean and well-functioning property at the end of the world, and to assemble a dedicated staff with great knowledge of the natural wonders that surround you. I'd call it an "Edu-vacation".

Room Tip: #1 has a wonderful and private view, yet is close to the main building and restaurant

I have to start by saying that the purpose of this trip was for "research" on a novel my friend is writing. What we received was so much more it is difficult to describe. Luna is an eco-lodge with a unique blend of impeccable service and wildlife extravaganza. The daily, hourly, and sometimes minute-by-minute sitings of local wildlife are abundant and exciting.

Be ready for a very warm, humid environment. This concerned me at first, but we adapted pretty quickly. You will probably need to put your makeup away and save it for the trip home, as I did. Be prepared to get sweaty and dirty (it is the rain forrest, after all) and to be the happiest sweaty and dirty you've probably ever been. Bring comfortable, cool clothes for hikes and tours and some good repellant. We used a non-chemical repellant and got very few bites. Be prepared to be amazed at the brilliance and resilience of nature.

If you are someone who would enjoy sitting on your front porch watching spider monkeys play in the trees, while at the same time being treated to a 5-star service experience, this is your vacation place. It's all there. The dining area is beautiful, the service is wonderful, and the food is amazing! Also, you will be fascinated by the story of Luna Lodge and how it continues to influence the conservation of the peninsula. You will meet amazing staff members and tour guides who will mesmerize you with their knowledge and love of this place. You will be treated as truly honored guests, and you will come away feeling enlightened and enriched.

Room Tip: I would suggest perusing the website thoroughly. You can trust the pictures and the staff is readily available via phone or email.

If you want a true rainforest adventure, Luna Lodge is the only place to stay. Definitely a 5-star***** eco-lodge on the Osa Peninsula in Carate, and off the grid for those who are adventurous. (except for the free Wi-Fi at the restaurant). To get there was part of the adventure, a 50 minute flight from San Jose on a 12 seat plane to Golfito, a 30 minute ride in water taxi to Puerto Jimenez, and an hour and half ride on bumpy roads, through a dozen streams in private 4 x 4. All worth it when you pull up to Lana and staff waiting to greet you with iced cold water and escort you to lunch and acquaint you with the lodge and some of her staff. We chose bungalow lodging, which was as beautiful as shown on their website. We had bungalow #7 which was quite a hike up many steps on the beautifully landscaped grounds (no A/C in the rainforest). Had some encounters with some of the rainforest bugs, but lived through it. It's true there are bugs, you hear strange noise outside the bungalows and the howler monkeys wake you in the morning, but sitting on the porch of your bungalow in the early morning, seeing a toucan or macaw in the trees above you, and looking out to the beautiful rainforest, was quite amazing. The yoga platform and spa with just up the steps from our bungalow. Not going to lie, it was humid, and the hike to the bungalow and yoga platform or down to the waterfalls was a bit challenging, but I feel better for having accomplished the trek each day during our 5 days there. Lana and staff could not have been more accommodating or friendly. If you call the lodge directly, you might have the privilege of speaking with Lana herself, which I did, and she answered, Wow! This is not your average lodge. Everyone goes above and beyond to acknowledge you and say Hola! A great big thank you to Daniar and Edwin for answering my many emails and arranging all our ground transportation to and from the lodge. It took the guesswork out of finding a ground taxi and water taxi from Golfito to Puerto Jimenez and to Luna Lodge. Lana and her Mom were the best hosts ever. They sat and chatted with all the guests at meal times and made sure everyone was satisfied, and indeed, they were. They treat you like family. The food was healthy and outstanding, made with fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits grown right there on the property. Our waiters Gilberto and David were top notch and most friendly. Did yoga for the first time (2x's) with Lana as our instructor and enjoyed the tranquility and views from the yoga platform and the whole experience with Lana. Kayaking before the sun rose with Kerly was serene and picturesque. He went out of his way to point out many species of birds and wildlife along the lagoon. Went on the shady lane hike with our guide Oscar who pointed out every type or bird and monkey he could spot with his naked eye and peered through the telescope and binoculars he carried. The saltwater pool was an added bonus and quite refreshing. I can go on and can't say enough about the Luna Lodge. It was a vacation or should I say an "adventure" of a lifetime. Loved it, and what Lana has accomplished. "Pura Vida"

Room Tip: Best Views of the rainforest are from Bungalow 7 and 8 or from the platform tents, but they are a HIKE!!

Luna Lodge is the best of a very successful conservation story in the Osa Peninsula. We loved the sloths, monkeys, ant eaters, toucans, white hawks, endless bird life, bug life and the most wonderful, passionate, knowledgeable guide, Jim, who brought it all to life. The walk through the Corcovado National Park is a must and we recommend visiting Shady Lane and getting up early for bird watching. Amed is one of the best yoga instructors I have experience in my 20 year practice and the view to the ocean from the studio is tremendous. Amed's massages are transformative as well. Wilbur, the chef, could easily open his own restaurant and we enjoyed his gourmet, healthy creations. We traveled in early June and had the place to ourselves a few nights in our one week stay. The last night, we were surprised with lovely flowers and hearts at our table for two on the patio. We recommend the private charter to Carate and the staff was great scheduling our flights and ground transportation for us. This is where they come to make the "rainforest" recording for sound machines (yes, kidding)...enjoy very comfortable accommodations while being immersed in all that is around you!

Room Tip: #1 is the best and close to main building. #10 is a more modest room, but also close. Advise if you don't want steps up to room.

We stayed here, at the end of the world, for two nights but wish we had stayed for at least 5 days to get the full benefit of staying at this captivating, all consuming eco-retreat.

The drive to Luna Lodge has one word: epic. We crossed 8 rivers from Puerto Jimenez after a night of heavy rainstorms, it took our 4x4 hire car and us to the limit and beyond of what we thought was achievable. The cool glass of water from the mountains you get when you turn up is very welcomed, but after our drive I needed something stronger.

The staff were fantastic, we were met by Daniar who was a very welcoming and knowledgeable host. Gilberto, our waiter was friendly and professional, and continued to be patient as we practiced our Spanish on him whilst eating superb food. Kerly was a great host and took us horseriding along the beach and in the rain forest. This was one of the highlights of our two week stay in Costa Rica, we saw four different types of monkey, parrots, macaws, vultures, herons and crocodiles. He also arranged for staff to proceed ahead of us on our departure to clear a road-way through the river, which was most appreciated!

The accommodation was great, we had a fantastic bungalow with an outdoor shower. Our private bungalow routinely had views of toucans less than 20yds away.

I cannot recommend Amed highly enough, his massages are a mixture of a chiropractor appointment, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy and were incredibly effective. He also ran the excellent morning yoga sessions, which were conducted on the yoga platform high up in the rain forest, and had stunning uninterrupted views.

The team at Luna Lodge worked very hard to deliver a very relaxing stay for the customers and clearly took great pride in their work. We would love to come again, but would fly to Carate rather than risk the rivers...
