I loved this place. Smart, independent (to say the least) owner, was wonderfully helpful and talkative too! Starting out with a beer on the beach at sunset, where the sunsets are marvelous, to the wonderful peaceful water right in front of us. A favorite was the hammocks hung near the beach. The front casita was where we stayed-simple, beautiful, immaculate as long as we washed the sand off our bare feet everytime. Jacqueline Baker was its name I believe? You should go there.

Room Tip: Front room was great.

We arrived in Samara not quite knowing what to expect and quickly fell in love with the beach town and especially with the our charming casita at Laz Divaz! After more than 2 weeks exploring the area, we are convinced that Laz Divaz is THE best location and the most charming accommodation of all. We had "Tina Turner" with a nicely equipped kitchen, comfy bed, and Gilligan's Island feel on the raised porch with rocking chairs and the sound of the surf just footsteps away. Mornings with coffee on the drift wood bench at "our beach", sunset cervezas at the same spot, and heavenly breezes under the palms in hammocks any time in between. Beautiful 5 minute walk down the beach to nice bars and restaurants. Sara is super fun and helpful and made us feel immediately comfortable. One problem: you're not going to want to leave! Super Super Place!

We loved Costa Rica and this was the most wonderful place in the whole country. We spent the best five days of our honeymoon at cosy Casitas LazDivaz at beautiful Samara Beach. The room was nice and very well cleaned, just a few meters from the water at a peaceful part of the beach, a short walk from the center of town.
Sara, the owner, really charmed us! She is a very generous and welcoming person who can make anyone feel good. She also has superb recommendations if you want to get the best and most genuine experience of Samara.
We loved our vacation at LazDivaz, can't recommend it enough! The best start a marriage ever could get!

What are you looking for? Room service? Cookie cutter rooms with turned down sheets? Other guests who look and act like you? If the answers are yes, then avoid LazDivaz. If you have more fire in your belly and a penchant for the natural world, choose to stay at this unique, wonderfully creative little place right on the beach. The casitas are charming, architecturally interesting, peaceful, and represent a true tropical beach house. For me, the greatest pleasure was being right on the beach but far enough away from the "tourists". I sat with a glass of wine at sunset with the few other guests watching the splendor of a Costa Rican sunset. We all represented different countries and I liked that. The Diva in charge is as colourful as the cabinas and very helpful in recommending restaurants and services. Playa Samara was a good choice for my friend who was visiting Costa Rica for the first time. The setting is gorgeous and not overwhelmingly touristy. It still has that small town feel, more natural and less contrived to cater to the people who must have everything like home. If you are looking for an adventure then LazDivaz will provide a safe haven from which to explore. Go for it! You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: There are only 3 casitas and I believe only one has a kitchen for cooking.

Our four-day stay at LazDivaz was the perfect ending to our Costa Rican holiday. What better way to relax and rejuvenate than blissful time in our own cozy casita literally on this beautiful calm beach on the Guanacaste Pacific coast.

We were greeted by Sara, LazDivaz’ proprietor and host extraordinaire, and shown to our casita, Marlene Dietrich, the one closest to the beach of the three on this lush, private oasis. Beach chic best describes the accommodations—Sara has made most of the furniture, and the room is comfy and clean and the perfect place to return to after frolicking in the waves on and off throughout the day. If you are expecting air conditioning, you won’t find it here; you don’t need it and that is part of LazDivaz’ charm. It was great to have a refrigerator, and it’s a nice size one; we kept breakfast and cocktails supplies on the ready.

Speaking of breakfast, Sara puts out delicious coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice each morning, and we would procure fresh fruit and other fun, simple breakfast items from the local markets and enjoy our breakfast in the rustic LazDivaz dining rancho. After breakfast, our days became filled with very difficult choices. Deep, blissful napping on the LazDivaz beach hammocks? Reading on our front porch? Swimming in the Pacific, laps or body surfing? Walking the beach to visit the village? Light lunch? A kayak expedition to the sweet small island just off the coast? Sunset cocktails at the beach (clearly a time-honored LazDivaz tradition, and one Sara clearly enjoys)? With questions like this, who needs answers? One day melts into the next at LazDivaz, and once relaxation took over (after about 3 minutes), we completely unwound. This is what vacation is all about, yes?

We had a car, only because we’d been touring throughout Costa Rica for the prior 10 days, but we never used it during our stay in Samara (OK, once, to drive to Carrillo, the lovely beach about 10 minutes south). If you do wish to travel, Sara is a font of useful information about the local sights (she tells it like it is), and other guests came back in the afternoons after a Sara-recommended journey singing her praises. She is also an ace birder, and will suggest where to find her favorite local birding spots or have you traipse along with her through the woods in the early morning. If you insist on plugging in to check emails or other unnecessary technology, there is a very strong Wifi signal throughout the compound. We checked to make sure things were OK at home each morning, and the phones scurried into the safe in the casita, where we did not see them again for the rest of the day.

LazDivaz is a just a short walk down the beach to Samara Village, and Sara will suggest her favorite dining spots; it’s always good to know what to avoid. Life is too short for mediocre cuisine when travelling! The town is small, but there is a bank and a post office and a larger grocery store called Pali if you’re feeling the need to visit a Costa Rican supermarket, and there are also some cute shops and street vendors, and bars for a mid-afternoon cocktail before heading back to our hammock. Nap calling! Once during our visit, a bakery truck pulled up by the hammocks, where we procured fantastic German-inspired pastries and lunch items. Be on the lookout.

Each day our casita was cleaned to perfection (before we messed it up again!), and we thanked her staff for being so friendly and helpful. We gave the housekeeper a tip, as clearly she was working quite hard to keep the entire property clean.

Thanks for everything! We recommend LazDivaz without hesitation. It was the perfect beach getaway in the loveliest of surroundings in the coolest of countries, hosted by a kind and fun proprietress. Enjoy your LazDivaz experience, prepare to unwind. And let us know what you think!
