We just loved our stay in Samara, and specifically the Logan. Spacious unit with nice kitchen, open patio, outside comfy couches and surrounding palms/trees to eliminate noise and provide privacy. Just 2-3 blocks from the store, 1 block from a sweet bakery. Samara is a nice mix of beach fun but still the Costa Rican feel. We stayed at the Logan for a week, and will be back for at least that long again soon.
Thanks again to Monika, and the always professional Elias for our wonderful stay! We live an hour away, and love to come to Samara for short getaways. This last visit did not disappoint. The pool deck had been completely refinished, with brand new amazing pillows and bedding. Clean, inviting, perfectly located, and always the easiest of check ins. Highly recommended.
We loved The Logan, a secure and private four apartment complex right at the end of a little cul de sac, just above the main bus stop in Samara. We had the upper apartment at the back, with nothing behind except the forest. We awakened to the sounds of the wind in the trees, and the singing of the birds, made coffee and sat on our balcony which overlooked a beautiful little pool, and garden. We felt it was truly a lovely oasis within a five minute walk, literally, of the beach and everything else in town. The apartments are all concrete, very clean, cool and minimalist, both in style and decor. The WiFi worked great, as did the two A/C units and overhead fans. We chose to eat out most of the time, and although the kitchen had an excellent refrigerator, cooktop, etc, it's not set up for complicated meals. There is a 'Pali' around the corner for food you do want to purchase, or try many of the excellent restaurants in town.
The shower was great, and there is also one outside for getting the sand and salt off. It is our experience that hairdryers, nor what we call, "washcloths" are standard equipment for bathrooms in Costa Rica, and that was the case here. Be aware too, that this is an Eco-friendly hotel/vacation rental, where the guests are invited to turn off lights and A/C when not needed, and also to conserve water.
We had the privilege of meeting Monika and her property manager Elias who was super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We felt so at home at The Logan that we didn't want to leave.
To be clear, this condo met our basic needs. We stayed 5 nights. The unit was very clean upon arrival. The a/c worked, although loud.....check to make sure it works when you are with the manager upon arrival. We had to use our travel clock batteries for the a/c remote or we would have been left in the heat. The location was good, just a short walk to the beach area. Samara is a very small town. Around the corner, we found an excellent bakery (Roots) for daily breakfast eats/coffee. The outdoor plunge pool was nice to come back to in the late afternoon......very refreshing. Samara was 35c /95% humidity when we were there. Very hot. There were outdoor couches but the coverings/pillows were dirty & sun faded, all the luster lost.
My husband found the bed comfortable, I did not. It felt like a futon mattress & I usually prefer a hard mattress. It's a queen bed not a king. The blanket coverlet had a hole in the centre/uncomfortable, limp pillows which reminded me of my hostelling days. The interior is huge but really drab & sparse. It felt more like a government institution facility rather than a glam, eco-chic condo, that's for sure. I found the hard grey concrete floors so unappealing. The entire bathroom is grey concrete & the counter tops in the kitchen area also grey concrete. Wait long enough, and you'll get hot water too, not that we needed it. The sparse furnishings were basic & the lack of colour made me glad we didn't spend much time in the condo. The lighting was so low you couldn't even read a book in the evening. So depressing compared to the other accommodation we had during our visit. The property manager even let us borrow one of his lamps while we were there just to give us a bit more lighting. There was a TV which was wonderful if you could understand Spanish. I have rented many condos over the years & have found all of them with great extra amenities like beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards, even yoga mats & extra hats.....those sorts of things that just make your vacation more enjoyable. A bonus when you are renting someone else's place. I asked if there were beach towels & the manager told me we receive two towels each for our 5 day stay so I could choice where I use them. For the cost of our stay, I would say The Logan could have done better with amenities/decor & lighting. There wasn't cleaning supplies or extra garage bags, no shower amenities, nothing. I think if you are staying for an evening or two, you wouldn't have any issues. We travelled 3 weeks in Costa Rica and this was our last leg.......5 nights was just too long at this place. We wanted the Tree House Resort on the beach but it was fully booked. Check it out, we did & loved the character. We wanted to say the Property Manager, Elias was very helpful during our stay. He was just a text away. Trust me, he went above the call of duty & we are most grateful for his help.
We initially planned to stay at The Logan for three days and ended up spending our entire 7-day vacation there - we honestly knew we wouldn't find anything else as nice. The accommodations were chic, clean and comfortable, and the AC was a lifesaver. The Logan's best feature is the saltwater pool- perfect for lounging! There is also a grill. Elias, the property manager was the best and extremely helpful and answered our 1000 questions and helped make our stay great. We hope to make it back to the Logan soon!
