This was my family’s first visiting Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, staying 10 days spanning before and after Christmas. The entire trip was spent at Casa Habibi, a magnificent private luxury villa perched high on a hillside between Playa Flamingo and Play Hermosa, providing the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
Just down the driveway and across the road, the villa is in ready walking distance to a beautiful public playa. While we were out on regular hikes and excursions, we took advantage of this beach using the complimentary boogie boards and folding chairs from Casa Habibi.
Casa Habibi’s layout provides lots of different spaces for communal gathering as well as spaces to slip away for private relaxing. Rather than gathering to eat in the formal dining room which could easily seat 12 people, we chose to sit outside under the large grass covered ramada which provided ocean views.
While we took advantage of having a private chef come in several times over the course of our 10 day stay, we really enjoyed coming together in the kitchen to prepare breakfasts and dinners on those days we were on our own. The kitchen and dining areas were well equipped with most anything you could need.
My family’s favorite gathering place was the infinity pool which provided direct views of the coastline and the Pacific Ocean. We all seemed to gather daily to watch the sunset either from the vantage point from within the pool or poolside. At least once, I slipped up to my room to watch the sunset from the vantage point my room’s balcony provided of the sunset. I am usually the first person in my family to wake up. I would get up, make the famous Costa Rican coffee, drinking it poolside while enjoying the expansive views and reading my book. The pool was warm enough for early morning swims too.
While equipped with a media cabinet with a large TV, I don’t recall any of us ever using it. Each of us took advantage of being able to use our own tablets and phones to access the Wifi Internet from most anywhere on the main level of the house and its outdoor spaces. The house is equipped with a good stereo system which was utilized to play our large library of music stored on a laptop we brought with us.
The master suite upstairs was as large as an entire apartment and appointed with beautiful furnishings and a safe. The other bedroom suite and bedrooms were interspersed throughout the house. This design layout affords everyone a nice place to retire, relax and rejuvenate. Most everyone in the family had an ensuite bathroom, those that didn't had one within feet of their bedroom door. Each of the bedrooms had a highly efficient air conditioning unit. If you wanted to travel light, you could, as the house is equipped with a washer and dryer unit. If not, each bedroom is equipped with an impressive built in closet made out of local Costa Rican wood. I was impressed that for once, there were enough hangers that I could put away all of my clothes without even doubling them up!
Casa Habibi’s expansive spaces offered plenty of balconies and patios that afforded privacy or small group gatherings. Each bedroom in the villa had an ensuite balcony providing views of the ocean. There were also patios located on both sides of the house providing plenty of spaces for when you needed to get out of the sun.
The villa’s game room was utilized after the sun went down while waiting for dinner to be ready or while waiting for the tour bus we had arranged to take us on a daily excursion.
There are a variety of restaurants and groceries stores located an easy driving distance from the house. Filling the gas tank takes a bit of planning, as the station is located some ways away, but doable with just a bit of planning.
Casa Habibi is located a scenic highway drive of about one hour from the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR), about 30 minutes from the resort town of Tamarindo. There are many smaller resort towns located between Playa Flamingo and Tamarindo, two which are noted for surfing.
Tripp, our host, was readily available to support us providing advice on local amenities, such as the best-stocked grocery stores. He knew exactly where to send us to purchase whatever we desired. He is knowledgeable and can make recommendations on local and regional restaurants and activities. Tripp and the staff who live onsite to provide daily care of the house, pool, and grounds, and cleaning, all made our Christmas Vacation a memorable occasion!
