We visited Costa Rica for our nephew's graduation. We began and ended our stay at Rancho Armadillo. I can not say enough about the zen like feeling that Rancho Armadillo has. On one of our nights we enjoyed a seven or eight course gourmet meal which was prepared by Rick--the owner. He is an amazing chef. Wait until you try his waffles in the morning. We relaxed by the pool while listening to howler monkeys that travel around his property. When we returned to Rick's at the end of our stay in Costa Rica, our nephew told us it was his favorite place. I really can't say enough about Rick's hospitality. And be sure to take advantage of his knowledge and tips. We can't wait to return and use Rick's as our home base and have day trips from there.

Room Tip: Tell Rick what you are looking for. He will advise.

We enjoyed a week's stay at Rancho Armadillo. We had a large comfortable room (half of a duplex really) in a forested area with lots of birds, even a troupe of howler monkeys that we saw a couple of times. There is lots of room to relax and Rick, the proprietor is very friendly and offers great ideas about what to do and see in the area. The estate is up on the hill overlooking Playa del Coco which has both advantages (great views and peaceful location) and disadvantages (it is a long way from the beach and the town so you really need to rent a car). But I would definitely recommend Rancho Armadillo for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful location like Playa del Coco.

Room Tip: The rooms are spacious half-duplexes scattered around a large beautifully landscaped estate.

Our family of 17 (7months to 64) went to Rancho Armadillo Estates for a week, Feb 17-25, 2018. Rick goes above and beyond to make your stay great. Our 7 year old grandson said "Best family holiday ever, Rick is a gracious host". Rick is an excellent chef, he made wonderful breakfasts and for our large group he made us dinner. Everyone loved the food he prepared for us. Rick arranged all of our trips and even our transportation, (thanks Coco Tours). The accommodation were perfect for our family. The kids loved the pool and we enjoyed sitting in the hammocks, were we could see the kids splashing and having a great time. There is so much to do in the area, Zip lining, sailing, snorkelling, swimming in the warm water, waterfalls and cat rescue retreat were some of the activities we did. We will return and be staying with our friend in Rancho Armadillo Estates.
Mucho gracias Rick.

Room Tip: Any room is great, we tried them all. The howler monkeys are right beside you!

My dad and I visited Costa Rica and Playas del Coco for the first time this summer and made this our home base for our adventures. Not knowing anything about the area and having only a working knowledge of the Spanish language, having Rick as a resource and host was extremely helpful. We had an amazing time here and would highly recommend it to anyone else planning to explore this area!

Fly into Liberia International Airport and you can be in the beautiful beach town of Playa del Coco (Coco Beach) in less than an hour. Calm waves and a shady palm lined beach also make this a favorite for Tico families. Lots of people having fun in a small beach town lined with restaurants and bars can be quite a lively scene, especially on the weekends.
On the outskirts of this energetic town, we found the perfect retreat. Rancho Armadillo Estate is away from it all, yet close enough for a short drive to the beach for fun in the sun or dinner at a beach side restaurant. Rancho Armadillo is like a bed and breakfast, but it’s even more than that. It’s a 25 acre estate, with wonderfully landscaped gardens, offering beauty in every direction. The views of blue-green shades of the Pacific Ocean, encircled by mountains, is mesmerizing. The sunsets are spectacular. The surrounding jungle is home to over 50 species of birds, mountain deer, monkeys, iguanas, coatimundi and the endangered Guanacasta Grey Fox. We enjoyed most of our time relaxing in the hammocks hanging from the pavilion and swimming in the ocean view pool. Owner, Rick, is very kind and personable and when you book a stay with him, he will help you plan the remainder of your vacation. The only bad thing is, with only a 2 night stay, we just didn't get enough of those magical views! We want to go back!! We loved our stay there so much that we went home and are now talking about the possibility of taking a family Thanksgiving trip there! It would be a great place for a large family gathering! Rick, we hope to see you again soon! Just can't say enough good things about it!
