“One-night stay”
Reviewed 8 April 2012 via mobile

My husband and I had a late-landing flight to Liberia and an early morning shuttle to Montezuma the next day. Since we were only spending 12 hours in Liberia we didn't want to spend much money on our room, but we didn't want bed bugs, either.

I'm really happy with the service we got. I emailed after booking my room and was pleased to have the option to be picked up from the airport for less money than we would have spent on a cab. We were given the option to stop for dinner on the way to the hostel. If we had landed earlier in the day, I think we would have passed, but since it was already late, we decided to stop. We got a great overview of costa rican food, local culture, and must-sees in the area.

The hostel itself is close to the bus station and market. There isn't much in Liberia, but we discovered there's a little section of what could be called "old" that we might consider if we're staying in town again.

Hostel is clean and safe. Maybe a little too safe -- it's locked from the inside and you need to ring the doorbell whenever you want to leave or enter. It was fine for us staying only 12 hours, but I imagine it might get a little annoying for a long term stay. We had our own shower, but shared a bathroom.

Highly recommended for budget lodging in Liberia.

The single room in which I stayed was a bit small and the place is nothing fancy, but at these prices one can't complain. Shaun, the owner, is informative and helpful and there is the opportunity to meet other travellers in the garden area. There are some good cheap "sodas" (eateries) in the nearby bus station. If you're arriving from the airport, it's worth getting their transfer service.

Room Tip: Try to get one as far away from the main road as possible.

Stayed there for four nights and returned for another two nights after my trip to nicaragua.

The owner is helpful and if you ask and there're enough people he'll bring you out on a daytrip to some waterfalls (you can jump, if you're brave) and you'll end the evening in a restaurant called "el mirador" watching the sunset. He can give you a lot of information about the surrounding sites and tell you, how you get there.

The hostel itselfs is clean, shared bathrooms, a nice garden with a kitchen in the backyard and a hammac. They have two cats and a small bird. You can also use the washing machine. All rooms have cable TV, some with fan, some with a/c. The rooms to the street are a little noisy throuout the day and evening, but over night there is silence.

I would return to this place, if I ever go back to Liberia

My stay here was excellent! The owner really went out of his way to make our accommodations as best as possible. He took a group of us out to see some waterfalls and then finished it up with a nice dinner on top of a mountain overlooking Costa Rica. The hostel is located only a block away from a major bus station in Liberia and also from a grocery store. It is only about 30-minutes from the airport and you can arrange transportation with the owner, which is cheaper than a local taxi.

A great place to stay if coming into Liberia and needing temporary accommodations before heading out somewhere else. The bus depot is maybe 500 feet away and you can catch a bus to anywhere for only $1.

Room Tip: Some say to stay in the rear of the hostel due to the noise up front and near the street. I was abl...

I don't like hostels, but occasionally book them to keep travel costs down. This is the first time I have ever actually enjoyed the experience!

First off the price is amazing. We booked the 'most expensive' room which was large, came with a private shower, good wifi signal, full control A/C and cable tv, and for several nights it was less than the price of a typical one-way taxi ride in North America (another good tip, use them as your airport shuttle). We stayed in several high-end hotels through the rest of the trip and I actually slept the best at this hostel!

The service is outstanding, the owners are very kind and helpful and both pleasant and fun to have conversations with. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing their day tour of local waterfalls and rivers, it was a highlight of our tour of Costa Rica and for a fraction of the price of other tours!

Room Tip: Book the 'deluxe' room with private shower, it was very comfortable and fantastic value.
