“Nice place to stay in Arenal”
Reviewed 23 February 2012

We did stay here a few days ago and must say the price/value proposition is good.

Check in was perfectly executed, great individual experience with all the information you may require for a pleasant stay, equally well was the check out however maybe one person more at the reception would make the trick.

The cocktails offered at the pool bar were excellent and well priced, breakfast was good other meals we were not able to enjoy since we only stayed for one night and came in late.

The farm tour is something special and a must experience if you never came across of such kind of experience.

Rooms are large however do miss some more amenities, it would help to have a larger size of TV, better air-condition function and a nicer place to enjoy some meals. Bed were good and bathroom was well equipped however missed a bath tube. The room setting we considered the as the less attractive of our experience, with a little push such could easily improved.

The road to get there could easily enjoy a make over, other then that a great location.

All in all nice place to stay if you are not looking for Luxury!

Friendly employees needs to be mentioned, every one we did meet did show the extra effort to make a long lasting impression.

Pleasantly surprised by a spacious, luxurious room with a priceless view of Arenal Volcano. Excellent air conditioning. Open air shower felt like you were showering outside. Good, hearty buffet breakfast included with your stay accompanied by another great view of a lake to enjoy with your indoor/outdoor eating experience. Property is enormous but shuttle service can easily be called and arrives within minutes. We were fortunate to be in walking distance to the restaurant and pool.

A few negatives:
- I found the restaurant service to be a bit unfriendly. On our first night we went to the restaurant for dinner. We were abruptly asked if we had a reservation and were questioned whether we were truly hotel guests. We look young for our age but are working professionals who are completely capable of paying for a meal. Plus the restaurant had plenty of open seats and the food was not even that great. This service continued during breakfast where instead of a "good morning", we were abruptly greeted with "what's your room number" so that they could mark it off their list. Perhaps it's a translation issue?

- The road to the hotel is long and unpaved. Don't let that discourage you for what lies ahead. But at the same time, it's too far to walk to La Fortuna downtown and if you don't want to take a taxi, then you're held captive to the hotel's restaurant which for us wasn't the highlight of our trip.

Beautifully positioned under Arenal Volcano (alas pretty quiet despite what the guidebooks say), in a campus style. Can easily walk around the campus but transport is provided for those who need or want it.
Excellent rooms, especially those numbering from 200 as they seem larger than those numbering 100 - and the 200s all face the volcano.
Rooms are spaciously set (again especially the 200s), not so the 100s which are more of a semi style and much closer together with just garden, not volcano views.
Large restaurant, with no main vegetarian course, but would do a pasta if requested. A couple or so veggie starters tho'.
Thermally heated outside pool with swimup bar .
The hotel is quite a way from La Fortuna which would require transport to get to.
Plenty of activities in the locale - night walk to see frogs, walking, cycling, hanging bridges, zip wires, Arenal Lake (man-made but very pretty offering all sorts of water based activities)....

Room Tip: Ask for rooms beginning 200 as these are all detached, have volcano view, and are bigger.

The view from our room was the best part. We had 2 large glass doors which gave us an unobstructed view of the volcano. We never had issues with noise since we had no neighbors. Outside were 2 rocking chairs where we were able to sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful grounds and the great view. Our bathroom had a mini-garden in it, which was extremely unique.

Everything about the room was great! I just wish they served better food at the restaurant. We had both dinner and breakfast there. Dinner was mediocre and a little pricey. Breakfast was your typical breakfast buffet. Again, mediocre.

Their hot springs were very simple and had a swim-up bar that we really enjoyed. The bartender was really friendly.

The following night we stayed at Baldi and the room at Manoa was SO much better. Stay at Manoa if you're looking for a relaxing place with an outstanding view. Don't let the unpaved road to Manoa turn you off the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms 209 and 210 are perfect. Walking distance to the restaurant and pool with an unobstructed vie...

Beautiful grounds, great restaurant, very helpful desk staff.

Seems this place is private villas for each resident. its spread out, so try to get a room near your interests if you have any mobility problems - pool, resto, spa, lobby.. All rooms very well maintained and appointed. Great views.

only negative is that the roof seems really noisy when its raining. I don't know what else to say about that.

The restaurant is so fantastic. The brekkie they put on is great. If you like hot sauce, try their home made stuff.. so yummy, and I liked it so much, they had a take-away container prepared for me to take with me on my last day.

You can clearly see the volcano from this hotel, and that combined with the lush flowers and trees make for some great photos.

There isn't too much to do here if you're looking for an all-in-one entertainment complex, but you're a short drive to town and very close to many activities around the Volcano all just a phone call away. The staff is very helpful with recommendations and reserving food and activity offsite. As for activities, they even cover the cost of activity on your behalf and just charge it to your room at checkout.
