“What a Find!!!”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

We stumbled on The Tree Houses Hotel while searching for places to stay in the Arenal region. Once we saw the photos on their website we were sold! Then we had the pleasure of dealing with Mark and Lucy before the trip, setting up tours and asking a million questions!
They are a terrific team and eager to help in anyway. The treehouses themselves are just like a cabin in the woods...very clean, very rustic. and very high up! The breakfasts every morning were absolutely the best...surrounded by all the exotic birds of Costa Rica. Be sure to do the tour of the hanging bridges...the tour guides are so knowledgeable and find things in the trees we never would have spotted on our own. Also take a rafting ride on the river and a hike by the volcano...all things Treehouses can arrange. As far as restaurants go, Mirador"s is around the bend and the food was great there, as was Bella Verona, about 10 kilometers away. We had such wonderful salads and fruits the whole time we were there. Make your reservations far in advance for Treehouses...I'm sure it's not easy to get them and it is well worth it! Enjoy!

When I told people I met along my trip in Costa Rica that I was staying at the Tree House Hotel, the response was always the same "Aw, we wanted to stay there but couldn't get in!". Well, I can see why.

Think of a cozy rustic cabin, lifted into the trees. The views are great, and the environs are so lush. The cabins themselves are very clean and comfortable. In high winds you may get a little noise from the trees brushing against the cabin, but otherwise each one is nicely surrounded in a cocoon of green. There's not much to the rooms (pretty much just the beds and the bathroom), but the decks outside are perfect for lounging and listening to the sounds of nature.

They were constructing a new treehouse during my stay, so I didn't get the experience of waking up to howler monkeys, but there were toucans entertaining us during each breakfast, and lost of other things to see. There is a wonderful hike on the back of the property (40 min out) that provides a very natural private hike to two scenic destinations. You get the benefit of a well maintained trail, but also the feel of a remote hike because it is still on the property. Great for families and anyone wanting to connect to nature.

The meals were great, and Mark and Lucy take great care of their guests. The tours they arranged were outstanding, and they made sure I had everything I needed.

The only drawback to this place is that it is a bit of a drive to La Fortuna (about 45 min). And coming back at night is a bit challenging. So while this means you are safely isolated from the crowded bustle of that area, it does mean adding some travel times to your outings.

They obviously are pretty much booked solid through the high season, so if you are considering going, book early. Although I traveled solo and had a blast, if I had visited here with my family as a child, they would have needed a crowbar to pry me out of that treehouse. You won't find another place like this, and if you can handle the drive into La Fortuna, you can have a base camp that will provide memories for years to come.

Great vacation! Mark and Lucy helped immensely in planning our tours, setting up reservations, car rental and more. A little off the beaten path but close to many worthwhile spots, sights and recreations around La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano area. Highly recommended!

We took our 4-year-old daughter along and had a wonderful time. Mark and Lucy are fantastic hosts and will help you with anything you need. Although we found it to be a great place for the whole family, we also think it would be a perfect place for couples to come. The tree houses are clean and comfortable, the breakfasts are fantastic and we can't imagine anyone leaving not competely unhappy!

Wow! I never thought I would be in Costa Rica and My husband had always wanted to go. Our stay at TreeHouses Hotel was like being kids again. We climbed up stairs to our Room and saw a lovely, clean bed, and Bathroom. Of course; upon arrival Mark was there to greet us and explain the area, answer any questions; get us settled. It was like when your dad finished your Treehouse and you couldn't wait to try it out! Also, Lucy made sure we had what we needed and each morning an interesting local dish with gorgeous fruit. To get your day going.( Something different each morning). Lucy and Mark visited with us and other guests every morning and we felt like we had known them forever. Lucy explained all the Birds and any animals we saw and I enjoyed eating on their patio so much I did not want to go back to eating inside again. The people they set us up with for our excursions were absolutely wonderful! took great care of us and again I felt safe. Costa Rica is beautiful and I will go back to Tree Houses to see Mark and Lucy . It is an awesome experience!

Room Tip: All the Treehouses are neat and will be explained on the Website
