Stayed at this place for 3 nights over a Costa Rican vacation. The property is beautiful and staff very friendly! The hot springs were amazing and plenty of them! They do not have a ton of heat rooms so not over crowded.

The restaurant was not that great, but only ate there once for dinner. The breakfast that is offered for free was very good. For dinners I would definitely recommend going into town and eating at the local restaurants....they were delicious!!!

I would definitely stay here again!!

I'm in 2 minds about this review.
The booking process was complicated for us personally. We emailed back and forth quite a few times to get our reservation secured and organise tours, which we didn't realise at the time we could book directly with the tour company - see separate review.
When we arrived we were told they could not find us on their system despite showing them the print out of our emails etc. They also wanted to hold copies of our passports which we had left in our other hotel in Tamarindo and were not told this was required to check in. Luckily we had photos of our ID pages on our phone. It took about 10 minutes to sort it out and then we had endless pieces of paper to sign. It seemed an unnecessary and irritating welcome especially as we had been travelling on the road for over 4 hours to get there.

Our room had also been changed since booking, they had emailed us but we had no access to them as we had been in transit in the country for a number of days prior to our arrival at the hotel. The room we were given was fine, it felt quite small but had what we needed for the time we were there. (2 nights). However, it is often expected that you get the room you book in advance so they need to be careful of this. (ie: it was not a free upgrade type scenario so we were not transferred from a standard room to a suite. We were due to have 2 full size beds but ended up with 1)

The gardens are lovely, unfortunately we had a lot of rain during our stay so did not get an opportunity to see the volcano but on a clear day I imagine the hotel offers a prime spot.

Food in the restaurant was nice with no complaints on choice of options. There is a small shop at the entrance which offers snacks, drinks, gifts and essentials and as we were often out for long periods of time on tours we utilised the shop for snacks on the road and when we came back late in the evenings.
There is a pool table and darts board in Reception which are good distractions when you need to pass the time.

Cleanliness of the hotel was overall good. There are a large number of different birds that you can see both from the gardens and by the restaurant area.

The location of the hotel is a fair distance away from the main town so you do need to rely on your own transport options, really. For us it was not an issue as we were gone from around 7am-8pm on both days and had everything pre-planned/booked but if you just want to stay in the area without tours then you may struggle with the lack of transportation.

For me, the customer service could be better. It certainly lacked the warm hospitality we experienced in other areas. On a final note, as we had booked the room and tours directly via the hotel ... one of our tours had been re-scheduled to our final day which meant we would be in the hotel for 3 hours before our pick up back to Tamarindo. Our check out time was in the morning (you get penalty charged quite a lot for additional time spent in the room). The hotel were made aware of this by the tour company and it would have been a nice touch if they could have arranged for us to have access to a room for 1-2 hours to freshen up and relax before heading back on the road. Normally I would not say this as it's just the way things operate and they need to accommodate others, I fully grant that, however everything was done directly by them and they were aware we would be returning from a full day hiking as a change of plan.. so going the extra mile and offering a room for us to shower and get our things sorted would have really improved my impression of the service. Maybe something for consideration in the future?

As a base for a few nights it was fine for us but the best thing was the tour company - not the hotel. I guess we had higher expectations then we should have.
If you are thinking of booking I would say use it as a base for a few days, but just my personal opinion.

If you have any questions or queries please do feel free to contact me.

We loved this smaller thermal springs with the awesome swim up bar. The rooms were clean and easy access to everything in Arenal and La Fortuna. We ate at the restaurant quite a bit, as we were there during stormy weather. It was hard to dry out the clothes, so we decided to just like in the thermal pools and eat at the swim up bar!
We saw the pools being emptied and scrubbed out two times during our 4 night stay! Clean is good!! Fun place to stay with the kids! Great buffet breakfast, with varying menu daily.

Room Tip: Try to stay closer to the pools!
