“you can't beat the view!”
Reviewed 27 February 2012

just came back from a weekend in Arenal. I had been in San Jose on business and wanted to get out of town for a few days. I found this place thought it looked great in the pictures but you never know. It turned out to be wonderful! Amazing view of the volcano--even got a few minutes sans clouds :-) A lovely cabin with a back porch with the amazing view...just secluded enough to feel like you were a part of nature but not too remote for this single woman traveling alone. The staff was excellent and helped me make the full use of my time with great tour options. Since I only had two days I did a zipline/canapoy tour with Ecoglide (including the crazy Tarzan Swing--try it if you dare!) then a full day tour of the hanging bridges, waterfall (warning--many, many steps but beautiful!), lunch in La Fortuna, then a hike up the volcan lava rocks and finaly off to the hot springs and dinner. Would recommend for everyone if you are in the Arenal area!

Room Tip: Another reviewer suggested the 500 level cabins--great view and quiet

Stayed at Lomas for four nights this February. We loved the location right up against the volcano. Our cabin was spacious, clean and we enjoyed having tv available.

One thing that makes Lomas great is that it's well off of the main road creating a quiet and secluded experience even though you're only a short drive away from most major attractions.

Breakfast was great every morning. The open air dining area offers a fantastic view and a nice opportunity to do some bird watching.

I highly reccomend Lomas and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

The positives of this hotel far outweigh the few negatives, and overall we were very pleased. We loved the rustic but luxurious cabin. We had to change cabins when we first checked in because the safe in the first cabin did not work. The staff seemed surprised that this was an issue for us, but a safe is very important because you are probably going to spend a lot of time hiking, swimming, etc. and you need to keep your valuables in a safe. A review below outlines the problems with the safe. It has a keypad for some reason but opens with a key, which means someone at the hotel has access to it. We weren't missing anything, but it felt uncomfortable, since obviously we don't know the hotel staff. Just be aware of this issue.

Our room didn't have a hairdryer. I don't know if any of the rooms do. Fortunately, we brought one with us. The hotel was a little light on the bath amenities also (liquid soap in the shower doubled as shampoo). Again, we had brought shampoo and soap with us, so it wasn't a problem.

The front desk booked two tours and an in-room massage for us. The massage was $70 per hour and they threw in a facial, so that was a very good deal. We also had a few meals in the hotel restaurant. The waiters were delightful and the food was excellent.

The road to the hotel is a real drag - long and bumpy - and we really got tired of going back and forth and felt bad for other tour participants who had to drop us at our hotel. You should also be aware that many of the cabins involve a bit of a climb up a hill, which may be an issue for anyone with mobility problems.

We loved having our own cabin, something we usually don't do, and were generally very happy with this hotel.

Sorry for the plagiarism Paula7983 but you hit the nail on the head! What a wonderful and pleasant surprise when we found Expediea.com had not even notified Areal Moana of our reservation and we were transferred here. We were treated kindly, escorted here from Moana and given an absolutely spotless and adorable bungalow at the base of the volcano. Stay here, you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: Room 403 is very private and looks directly at The volcano.

We stayed here for 2 nights, Feb. 11th and 12th. We didn't know what to expect as we drove up the dirt long dirt path to the hotel. Finally, as we reached the top, we were nothing but pleased. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and super clean. The backdrop of the volcano is amazing! The staff here is wonderful. Extremely helpful with whatever your needs may be and also very honest. They explained to us not to waste our money on a night tour of the volcano, because it is not active at the moment, but told us of other activities in the area. Check out the Arenal Hanging Bridges and Tabacon Hot Springs if you get a chance. There is also two computers with internet right in the lobby for your convenience. You also feel very safe here, with security guards on at all hours of the night :).
Our bungalow was just perfect. Nice large, clean rooms with a large bathroom and really big shower. Each bungalow includes your own private porch with a table and chairs and a great view of the volcano to wake up to every morning. We also ate breakfast here both mornings and enjoyed it very much. The food was very costa rican, which I love and the juices were so fresh and delicious, along with the wonderful costa rican coffee I now love more then anything.
The landscaping of the entire hotel and the pool area are gorgeous with the volcano as the background for pretty much everything here. We absolutely loved our stay here and would have stayed longer if we had had more time. I definitely recommend this hotel and will absolutely be staying here again. I hope this review helps you find your piece of volcano paradise like it did for us :) Pura Vida!
