We stayed here for the first 3 nights of our trip to Costa Rica. In retrospect i would also have liked to stay here at the end as well, It would have made a stunning finale and has the perfect situation of being 20 minutes from the airport yet feels, quiet, private with awesome views over the central valley.
The gardens and the architecture were for us the standout features. Beautiful room, artfully decorated with a small kitchenette, bedroom/sitting room and a balcony to die for overlooking the upper gardens. we spent half a day walking the grounds, following the trails to the waterfalls, seeing the orchard, the animals and the vegetable and herb gardens. Yes, all of this within the hotel grounds.
We counted 3 pools in the grounds (but there could be more!). The sunset pool is the most beautiful and you can decent lengths in it whilst admiring that view.
The service was absolutely fine. We arrived after a 25 hour journey to discover our agent had made a mistake with the booking and we weren't expected for another 2 days. No problem. Another room was found and was immediately ready.
Dining. The breakfast was continental and cooked was extra. This wasn't the case in other hotels we stayed in, but it wasn't an issue to us as we don't major on full cooked breakfasts. The home made granola bars were a delight and the fresh fruit lovely.
Dinners. No issues.
Overall experience. Brilliant. Lovely relaxed atmosphere for such a stunningly beautiful hotel.

Hubby and I stayed here for 2 nights before flying home to the UK after a 24-day holiday. We loved it. 20 minutes for Juan Santamaría Airport, it is the perfect place to relax at the end of a trip, or to unwind after a long flight at the start.

We stayed in the Prima One King Bed Villa. This is one of their basic Villas. It was comfortable, beautiful and had the most gorgeous, large terrace overlooking part of the gardens and on to Alajuela. The colourful artwork, both in the Villa and in the main reception building and restaurant, is lovely. There is a particularly striking collage in a homage to Freda Kahlo. The food in the restaurant is very good and the view quite stunning. Service was good, aside from one dinner, when it was extremely slow. The restaurant was particularly busy that evening and this small failing is not enough to detract from a 5* review for me. The gardens are glorious, made more so by the wonderful scents of the flowers, the birdsong and the calls of the crickets at night.

Xandari, Costa Rica highlight that guests can plant a tree in the beautiful grounds should they wish to do so. We asked about this and it was quickly and easily arranged. We were asked to provide a personal message up to 20 characters in advance. The following morning, as arranged, we were taken to the spot to plant our tree and found our message had been engraved onto a upright wooden marker. The soft ground had been made ready and the digging out, and filling in, of the hole was done under the supervision of the Gardener. No charge was made for any of this. We hope that one day we will return to see our tree growing strong.

We stayed here for one night at the end of our trip to Costa Rica and we were very happy. The grounds are beautiful overlooking the valley with hiking trails to waterfalls, our room was big with a kitchenette and a pretty private patio. It was very convenient to the airport and we were impressed with the service we received even before we arrived. Our flight was cancelled and they made sure to contact us to change the pick up time for our transportation. Again we can only speak about the one night we were there but it was a very nice way to end our vacation.

We agree with everything the review entitled "Oh the Colour!" had to say. We didn't visit San Jose while we were there, and my wife had a massage at the Spa and enjoyed it very much. Beautiful architecture and landscaping and the views from the room, dining area and swimming pools are all stunning, especially at night. Very romantic setting. Some of the earlier reviews panned the food - we found the food to be excellent. I had sea bass for one lunch which was the best I have tasted anywhere. The staff will arrange for taxi rides from/to the San Jose airport, about 20-25 minutes away. We would definitely stay here again.

My instant reaction to Xandari was amazement at the bright colours of the buildings and interiors as well as the unusual architecture. No boring square hotel rooms here but lots of soaring ceilings and curvy walls. There are some beautiful mosaics dotted around too. The Lodge sits high up overlooking a valley and has views to die for. There is a curved, covered terrace which has this beautiful view where you will enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is excellent.
The suites are very spacious. Our ensuite bathroom was very large with a roomy shower. We enjoyed a terrace with sun beds to relax on and enjoy that view which is even more stunning at night when all the lights come on and twinkle below.

The gardens are stunning and there are several trails through them for guests to enjoy. Some of the suites are a fair way from the main Lodge so guests can telephone for an electric cart to pick them up. For those who wish to indulge themselves, there is a spa in the grounds. We loved our two nights here. We made the mistake of visiting San Jose. Don't bother unless it's to see the gold museum or the theatre. The traffic is dreadful and there is little to attract the tourist. The Museum of Contemporary Art was a joke. There was almost nothing in it. Better to stay and enjoy the beauty of Xandari and its lovely staff.

There is a beautiful swimming pool in the grounds which enjoys stunning views. I didn't really feel that this was a hotel suitable for young children as there is little for them to do other than use the pool.

I couldn't get my iPad to accept the ratings but everything gets five stars.

Room Tip: The villas all seem beautiful but ask for suites overlooking the valley
