We recently stayed at Xandari, 1 night after flying into San Jose and 2 nights at the end of our trip before departing San Jose. We loved the grounds and the villas. We stayed in 2 villas, 22 and 24, and both were incredible. No problems or issues whatsoever. Really liked the mini-bar and complimentary drinks in the room. We enjoyed the food --and we are really picky and critical about what we eat. I can see how some people may not enjoy it, especially if they are used to TGIFridays or McDonalds, so come with an open palate and mind. But they do have a bocas menu with things like chicken fingers and pizzas if you aren't adventurous. The staff was very nice...we especially liked Marcos and Christian. My husband and I had 1.5 hour couples massage and it was heaven. We hiked all of the trails. There is free internet, games, books, puzzles in the main building as well as a gift shop. Reading through past reviews, I really don't see how people complain about it being a dark, treacherous walk to the main building. We were as far away as it gets and walked at night all of the time. They leave flashlights in the room if you are scared to walk in the dark or you can call to get picked up in a golf cart. Also if you have a problem with the early morning sunlight, they have sleep masks at the front desk. The only complaints I have are that we heard people partying down the road (off the property) one night, and another night it was so windy that we felt like the villa was going to blow over. Not really the fault of the resort, but we did not sleep well either night. It was also a little chilly during our massages since the huts are open air. And we didn't like the lack of mobility and isolation we felt since we like to explore. So just keep in mind nothing is really in walking distance, but if you are looking for relaxation and romance, its great! I would stay here again, but I'd do it in the exact same way...as a jumping off point near San Jose.
