George made us very welcome at his spacious home in a very quiet residential area of Alajuela. We spent the first and the last night of our holiday in his B+B. He picked us up from the airport which was very kind after our long journey from Europe. He bakes delicious pastries for breakfast and the fruit platters are enormous and yummy. The rooms are clean and there is plenty of hot water for showering. The beds are comfy. All the guests can come in and out of the kitchen as they please. There is a drinking water despenser available and coffee adicts can get as many refills as they like. The living room is big and very cozy for hanging out any time of the day. The B+B is close enough to walk to the center of Alajuela. It takes about 15 minutes. Staying with George is highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed here a couple nights upon arriving in Costa Rica and again on the last night before flying back to the states. After spending 2.5 months in the CR, I can say this is a fantastic place to stay and has, by far, the best hot water showers of anywhere we stayed. George picked us up at the airport when we arrived, helped arrange a tour the first full day in country, and packed us homemade muffins and sandwiches for our flight home. George also was a delight to talk to and we felt like we were home while staying here, which is the ultimate compliment for a B&B and their host. They don't come much better. The price is right, the place is clean and comfortable, the host is fantastic and bends over backwards for you, what else do you want? I would highly recommend (and have) to anyone visiting CR and need a place to stay in Alajuela, look no further than here.

We stayed at Alegria B&B at the end of our week long vacation in Costa Rica. After roughing it for much of the trip, Alegria was a great place to end our journey. Located very close to the airport in a quiet neighborhood of Alajuela, Alegria is the perfect place to stay at the beginning, middle, or end of the trip. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious. Plenty of hot water and good pressure in the bathrooms. Plus, the owner couldn't be nicer. Not only did he help us find a cab at 5 in the morning, but he also packed us breakfast (including homemade muffins). Just be sure you have the address with you because taxi drivers don't necessarily know where it is by name.

Four of us friends stayed at this B&B on our last night in Costa Rica. George, the owner, arranged to have us picked up at the airport in Pavas by his friend Louis. Louis is also available to take guests on private tours, so we booked a tour to Sarchi with him since we only had the rest of the afternoon available. He took us to the oxcart factory and several other shops; and when we were ready for dinner, he suggested eating at a local "soda" since they are so much cheaper than restaurants. Awesome meal. He suggested a visit to the Alajuela Farmers Market as well. It was a treat having a local stroll through the market with us and describe all the wonderful and exotic fruits and vegetables. Back at the B&B, we were all extremely pleased with our rooms, Las Flores and Las Palmas. We enjoyed conversation and cervezas out on the patio in the evening. Next morning, George fixed a delicious breakfast of fresh baked muffins, fresh tropical fruits, coffee and juice. I highly recommend this little gem of a hotel. It is only 12 minutes to the airport (SJO), is clean, secure and comfortable, and is by far the best value for the money. We will definitely stay here again on a return visit to Costa Rica!

Room Tip: Las Flores is the largest room, with lots of storage and en suite bath.

George's Alegria B&B is an exceptional place to stay if you are concerned about being close to the airport for a flight out, don't want to spend all of your money on a place to stay, and enjoy feeling like a guest in someone's home. George, an ex-pat from Georgia, is attentive without hovering, assists with your travel arrangements, and makes a great cup of coffee. Our room was immaculate and spacious, the patio inviting for a glass of wine in the evening, and there is free Wi-Fi.

A possible downside is that there aren't a lot of restaurants really close, but George graciously dropped us off downtown after educating us as to what places had the best food. Needing a little exercise, we walked back, but taxis are everywhere and inexpensive. Be sure to see the cathedral, the large central market, and the wood factory!

Thank you, George.
