We were there twice a week ago. The first visit was good as we were upgraded to a suite by our travel agent, no complaint. But on the second visit we were upgraded to a mini suite, the mini suite was bad. Door handle to the bathroom was falling apart. What was unacceptable were cockroaches and small bundle of left over hairs in the bathroom. The Spa massage was bad and they also tried to cheat us.

The Bund Hotel offered a good experience but nothing exceptional. The rooms were clean, operational, quite, and of sufficient size. The bathroom was exceptional in all ways. The staff was generally helpful and friendly. I thought housekeeping staff were particularly outstanding. The breakfast buffett was good and varied. The onsite Russian Restaraunt/Lounge offered a stiff drink and a break from the routine of Chinese food. I recommend giving it a try. The location tends to be central but is a long walking distance to the Metro and a relatively longer walk to the Bund. Inspite of the name, the hotel is not on the Bund. The hotel is within easy walking distance to Najing shopping. I was amazed with the difficulty taxi drivers had finding the hotel. Be sure to carry your hotel card with you. I would stay again although it lacks the glitter of some the other hotels in Shanghai. The Bund Hotel is a solid choice at a reasonable rate.

This hotel is very nice and a close walk to Najing Road, Peoples Park and the Bund. The beds are comfortable (better than most in China). WiFi is available only in the lobby (should be throughout the hotel in this class). The business center charges for computer use (should be free).

Room Tip: The double bed rooms were much larger than the king bed rooms. There are only 3 floors of non-smoki...

I stayed here with my traveling companion in April 2011. First time for me to stay there and it was very enjoyable. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Restaurant was just ok but the area always seemed to be clean. Staff were helpful.
Location is a few blocks from Nanjing Road, so it seemed to be a convenient area. Within a block of the Hotel there was a small pastry and coffee shop which was a good place to stop for a pastry and drink. Also, this hotel is not very far from the Shanghai Museum. Overall it was an enjoyable stay.

After booking a room for $480 yuan a night and requesting a non-smoking room, we checked in and they told us that they wouldn't give us a non-smoking rooms unless we paid $200 yuan more a night. It started our stay off on a bad note. Later they sent up a fruit plate but we were still a bit miffed about it. Another downside was that they still don't give you free internet. On the plus side, the non-smoking room was quite clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Request a non-smoking room, but be ready to pay for it.
