To start with let me tell you that depending where your business in Shanghai is you should choose your hotel as going around could be a headache.
As for the hotel it is one of the best choices in Shanghai.
The service is superb, the rooms are well maintained and the amenities are luxurious.
Try getting a high floor room as the view of the Shanghai skyline especially at night is unique.
The breakfast buffet is very good and although the restaurants are very good I would suggest to go out for lunch/dinner and experience Shanghai.
DO NOT FORGET to get the taxi card from the reception as you will certainly need it to come back to the hotel!!
The very friendly concierge can give you excellent advise so don't hesitate to ask them.

Room Tip: Highest floor possible! Avoid the construction side of the hotel.

At first, I thought the location might be a bit off center, but this proved wrong. I was easily able to walk, take a taxi, or the great subway system to where I wanted to go. The breakfast buffet was great. My room was everything a luuxury hotel room should be. The service was consistently nice. The only weak point was the Japanese restaurant. The menu could be clearer. On the otherhand, the Chinese restaurant was superb, and as a single traveler they very kindly split portions.

Just checked in at the Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai, must say was a little underwhelmed. Having stayed at Four Seasons properties in Singapore, Hong Kong and most of the Europe and US properties this is rather average in terms of design and service.

Service is OK although the Front Desk Staff didn't give the usual Four Seasons welcome like other properties (considering we are staying for 7 nights) and were a bit dry. Our room (paid for upgrade to premier room) is large but lacklustre and feels a bit like a 4* Marriott Property. I have seen and would expect more from Four Seasons especially in Asia where they are usually better than Europe/US.

I guess we will see how the trip goes....I may write an update if things get better (or worse!) but feeling a little down considering it is my birthday today as well!!

I have been coming back to this hotel since 2003 and the service was always outstanding. The rooms in are in excellent condition and must have been continuously updated). The only drawback is that the bar on the top floor was closed and the lobby bar cannot make up for this. However, they have great food (try the Japanese place where thy offer a flat rate). The gym is excellent with everything you can imagine.
If you want to save some money, there are shops just around the corner. If you leave the Four Seasons and you turn to the left, you will find a newly developed alley with a lot of more Western-style restaurants, Starbucks etc. This is also where the metro station is. Just across the street at the Howard Johnson is another Starbucks in case you need this in the morning. About 100 meters down the street is a DVD shop where you typically get good quality and you do not have to negotiate like on the fake market.
One advise: they have a taxi card you should take with you so that you will always be able to get back without any problem.
