Best: Location terrific, Staff very efficient and accommodating, room exceeded expectations. Worst: Food was expensive. Would definitely stay here again. Close to major attractions and one block to Starbucks

I was in Shanghai for 3 nights and stayed at the Marriott city center. This was probably one of the best experiences I've had at a Marriott (I have Gold status). The staff is courteous and friendly all throughout the hotel. Special thank you to Sunny and her team in the executive lounge. Breakfast was plenty and filling, the staff spoke English well enough, and the concierge service was top notch. Definitely a bit more expensive than local hotels in Shanghai, but if you're used to western comfort and don't speak Chinese, the Marriott is a great choice (worth the price tag). Easy access by Metro (line 2, People's square station, exit 19, 5, or 7- look for signs to "New World City" it's a department store next to the hotel. A taxi from Pudong airport to hotel is ~180-200 RMB or ~$25-30 USD, takes 1 hr, non-rush hr.

We used our points to stay at the Marriott near the bund and it was amazing. The location was perfect as it was close to the metro line as well as the shopping centres. What made our stay even better was when the Concierge Supervisor, Jack Lang, helped us out in a tremendous way. We had left a luggage bag at the cruise terminal in Shanghai which was an hour away from the hotel. Jack took the time to call on our behalf and check with the cruise terminal if our bag was left behind. Once it was confirmed he made arrangements to have one of the concierge staff to go and pick up our lost luggage as he thought it would be easier for them to converse when they arrived there. We couldn't be more pleased with the service Jack provided us.

Knowing that this hotel has great staff like Jack, is walking distance to good shopping and tourist spots, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is heading out to Shanghai.

Beautiful city that must be seen. I rode the hop on hop off bus to see this city during the day and learned where everything was located. This city is small but compact with so many people. I ate lunch in a small Chinese restaurant down an alley off Nanking St. food was good and reasonably priced. Chinese people are mostly kind and helpful.
At night the buildings along the port light up and are even more beautiful at night.

Room Tip: Ny room in hotel is good

After we checked into the hotel on April 17, the hotel General Manager Mr. Frank S. came to meet with my wife and me in the Executive Lounge since we are at the Platinum Elite level. Even though we are at the highest elite level with Marriott for many years, this was the first time that the GM of a Marriott property personally made sure we are taken care of. The hotel is also well managed and spotless, highly recommended and will be there again! Appreciated!!!
