“Good Business Hotel Option”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2012

The Marriott Changfeng Park is a relatively new hotel (I think about 2 years). Therefore, the rooms and the interior all still look very well. The room has the usual Marriott comfort features and a great bathroom (Deluxe room). The staff was very friendly and tried hard to get everything right.
Since I stayed there for a conference, it is difficult to give an accurate comment on the pricing, but I wold estimate that the room price should be about 50-60% of the Marriott Hongqiao at Hongqiao road.
The location of the Changfeng Park hotel could be positive or negative depending in the individual and the traveling reason. The hotel is a little bit off, located North of Tianshan Road. The city center - depending on traffic - can be reached in about 25 minutes. Hongqiao airport is 15 - 20 minutes away. The hotel is convenient for business in Hongqiao and the Puxi side, even though, having the need to go over or through Tianshan Road can cause delays due to congested traffic.
What I found positive, I'd that there is a Tesco supermarket right next to the hotel, so there is no need to rely on the mini bar or small dirty convenience shops. In addition, Southern Beauty (good Sichuan food) has a branch close by. From the hotel, you can reach Tianshan Road by foot in about 5 minutes...there are many new shops there now. Also, by walking another 5 minutes you can get to subway stops of Line 2 which can bring you all the way to Pudong (escaping the road traffic).
A problem I experienced was on a rainy evening to get a taxi...well rainy evenings always make it hard to get a taxi in Shanghai but at this location taxi's are in general less than at. Other big hotel locations. During the day this should not cause a problem though.
Overall, I can really recommend the hotel. The rooms are very comfortable with wireless LAN as well as the good old LAN cable. Staff is friendly and trying to help. For getting around in Hongqiao and to the airport, the location is ok. The price should be well below the other Marriott Hotel in Hongqiao.

Don't let the hotel info fool you - this is a long way from anywhere - except the new business district and Normal University. Apart from that it's an excellent, very modern hotel in Western Shanghai which is close to a lot of the new manufacturing and business areas but a long way from the tourist sites.

If you are up to the 1/2 mile walk to the nearest metro station then it's direct access to People Square, Century Avenue and all the downtown Shanghai/Pudong attractions, the Bund and more. A cab will cost 40-60RMB but you will need the hotel provided information sheet as most taxi drivers do not know where this place is.

Excellent restaurants (Greek and Sushi too!) and very popular with the local wealthy Chinese make this a good choice, if you are on a more limited budget and don't mind being away from the central Bund area. One bonus is that it's very close to the Zoo and domestic airport but don't get ripped off by the 400 RMB fee that they charge you at the airport. A local taxi is more like 50-100 RMB and many of the driver at the airport speak enough English to get you there without any hassle.

My first experience with hotel in Shanghai was bad and you. The second time however was a totally different experience. This Marriott is subtle luxury, fantastic service and amazing people. It is n hours drive to the office from here but I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Right from the general manager Mr. Malik, the breakfast hostess Paula to the door man Marc will make you feel very welcome.
The hotel is very luxurious and the rooms are no exception. I just love the bathrooms and if you are into details checkout the lights at the edge of wood paneling in the room or the sahara cream marble in the bathroom. I could go on and on but I would rather recommend you experience it yourself.
I have stayed here twice and as I said, wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Try the corner rooms, if I remember right the rooms with number 12 which have a bath side window to...

Stayed at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Changfeng Park for business for several weeks over two different trips. This is an excellent hotel! The property is rather new, upscale decor, professional and friendly staff, with great amenities. The rooms had very comfortable beds, mini-bar, spacious desk and sitting areas. Bathroom was very spacious, large tub, separate shower with rainshower head, and a good hair dryer. Get a Park view for excellent views of Changfeng Park. As a Marriott rewards member I received free wifi and wired internet in the room. Large flat screen TV (no DVD player) and Ipod docking station alarm clock. Some rooms have automated curtain and drapes control.

Daily breakfast had a large selection of many kinds of foods. There is a good fitness area and pool. The Japanese restaurant on site is quite good, but pricy. Dont bother with the onsite Chinese restaurant, much better chinese food elsewhere. Concierge was always friendly and helped with all questions I had, it was my first time in Shanghai.

My only complaint is the location. The hotel itself is fantastic, but its a bit of a walk to the closest area with any restaurants or shops, about a 20min walk over a canal bridge. The closest Metro stop is also in that area. Its inconvenient in my opinion to walk that far for the Metro or find alternative places to eat. A new shopping mall just opened next door while I was there and hopefully it will make for other interesting eating and some shopping options near by. There is a big Tesco supermarket also next door for supplies.

One more note: sometimes it takes a long time to get a taxi even at the front taxi queue. Not sure again if its location or what, but be prepared to sometimes have to wait for a taxi.

Room Tip: Request a room with a Park view. The rooms have big windows and its a great perk to see the park li...
