“sceney and spicy”
Reviewed 5 August 2012

if you like spicy, this is the place for you! the food is beautifully prepared and has flavors that are very authentic. it's a difficult reservation, so you should reserve a couple of days in advance. lots of expats, of course, but there are enough locals to keep the menu honest. loved their cocktails!

“Two good restaurants”
Reviewed 2 August 2012

I have eaten in both restaurants - the Bund location is larger but has a great buzz (usually full), and the French Concession location is smaller and more intimate. So, take your pick. The menu is extensive, but easy to navigate. It's not clear which dishes are very spicy, so worth asking the waiter as you order if you want some balance! The quality and flavour of the food here is excellent; portions are not small, so it is easy to over-order. Compared to some other good restaurants in Shanghai, the level of English of the serving staff is not good. That aside, it is a great place.

“Lovely”
Reviewed 28 July 2012

Fantastic restaurant in an excellent location, just off the Bund. The menu is extensive and offers traditional Chinese fayre presented in a modern way. Only criticism would be that the dishes are served in no particular order so our rice and sides arrived when we were almost finished our main.

“Smelly, good price and nice atmosphere”
Reviewed 27 July 2012

The Gaoyou lu branch is smaller and cosier than the Bund one.
Both have very nice bars.
I always find these restaurants smelly, went there several times and there's always a strong smell, must be the spices.
Food is a bit oily, good value for money, nice atmosphere (dark, lots of red) but avoid the Bund branch if you don't like crowd. Mostly foreigners, visitors, business people and tourist over there.

“Great food, great location”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

Better than the other branch (French C), IMHO. Set over 3 large floors, the interior is cosy and inviting. Lots of great yunnan choices on the menu and not expensive. Staff very helpful. We ordered several dishes in a party of 3, and all were delicious. Recommended.
