“You can't come to Melaka and not come here!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

This is a must see from the old church to the fountain and the Stadhuys. Got myself a nice t-shirt from one of the vendors, and some good quality fridge magnets. Really nice place but best early morning or later in the day when it's not so hot.

“A historical site, but expect to be irritated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

Dutch square contains some marvelous historical buildings from the period when the Dutch called the shots in Malacca, notably the "Stadthuys" and the "Christ Church", all painted in that special red color. This square is part of the Unesco World Heritage site of Malacca. A "must" visit. But, the place has become extremely touristy. Numerous stalls, selling predictable goods to tourists have appeared alongside the wall of the "Stadthuys". Furthermore, many "becak" drivers try to convince tourists to take rides with them; many of those vehicles are equipped with loud blaring sound equipment to make the rowdier disco jealous, and to add insult to injury, the word "STADTHUYS" in big white characters above the entrance has been replaced by an electronic news ticker. Dutch Square could be so much better with a little bit more respect for history.

“Cool little square”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2012

Melaka is small and for a traveller it only deserves a day or two, its easy peasy to walk around a see the main bits in an hour, maybe too. The square is cool to see with the roundabout sign of kilometres to different countries and theres a small market there too.
