Even though we weren't staying under their roof we got to join their Gin O'Clock at the house bar. We were happy that they allowed us to look around and got to see a little of this beautiful Peranakan building. It was so nice that we were sad to leave it, but the drinks brought us in a better mood. The card menus nicely presented the drink options and their recipe. I had the Malacca Collin, which was sweetened with Gula Melaka, while my darling had their Tanqueray’s Malacca Gin. More about this limited-edition Gin and information about Melaka you can find on our blog page WNFdiary. Feel free to check it for some great suggestions. The hotel is set in walking distance from main attractions and the Jonker walk. I like that is close to the river, so you can have a peaceful morning or evening walk there, maybe even a run.

room was nice and hotel was great for taking photos... however soundproofing of the rooms was terrible. i woke up at night to the sound of the bathtub filling up in the room next door... followed by the sound of the coffee maker... and the flicking of the main light switch next to the bed next door could be heard so clearly. not to mention the voices from the hallway

We stayed for 3 nights in May and really loved the experience of staying here. It feels very special to be in the reception area and the restaurant which has been really well restored.
Our room was fabulous in the adjoining building behind the old mansion - just like the pictures. We loved the bed, linens, bathroom, toiletries etc.
The service from all the staff was fabulous all day. They were so polite and helpful and got us a car and driver when we wanted to head out of town for a drive which worked really well. We also used him to drive to KL airport. Took 1hr45 door to door.
Location wise - it took us about 10-15 mins to walk into the heart of the tourist area and it was a really interesting walk along the way. We loved the location. Just far enough away from hoards of tour buses but close enough to wander in and out of. Lots of convenience stores within a few hundred metres and some shops in a small modern mall very close. It gave us great options to nab cool drinks or a light tea. Plenty of street food if you want it as well. We also did the river walk into the centre one day and that was interesting to do.
Breakfast is part buffet and you order eggs /bacon etc to be cooked. It was a small but very nice breakfast buffet. We really enjoyed that there was just a small group of people eating there in any one day and not the large groups of noisy greedy tourists you get in some hotels. We had dinner there one night with a set menu. The Chef came out at the end and met us and the other couple in the room that evening. She seemed keen to sell us her book and cooking tours.
We used the pool most afternoons after our day out and that was very refreshing and often had a drink at the bar early evening - was very cool to sit at their old/traditional bar.
Overall we felt this was more than a hotel stay - it was an experience and we loved every minute of it.
Thank you to all the team for a memorable stay.

Beautiful vintage property perfectly matching the art of Melaka. Amazing arrival experience, quick check in and smiley and kind staff that take you to the room and serve you a traditional tea as you arrive to the room. Good breakfast a la carte, kind staff there too. Overall beautiful property for a getaway, check in experience made it great. Thank you. Duarte

Kudos to the reception and staff at the hotel for being very responsive on phone and email to my queries and arranging the session at very short notice.
The cost is $380 which includes a trip to the market in the morning, followed by the Kristang cooking session by hotel’s sous chef, Chef Khay Tamaño. The package includes a book by author-chef Melba Nunis, an apron and matching napkin.
Chef Khay is very engaging and forthcoming with cooking tips.
Beautiful set up for the cooking demo by the hotel’s pool.
I like the little touches and attention to detail such as a lovely morning snack of pulut hitam, cake and tea after the return from the market.
After the cooking demo, I dined on the lovely kari debal and sambal fish binagre prepared by Chef Khay.
There was also cincalok fritter and cincalok omelette.
All in all, a lovely way to get acquainted with kristang food and pick up useful cooking tips.
You don’t have to be a hotel guest to sign up.
Staff service is excellent, and the best I have experienced in malacca so far. Very warm welcoming staff.
