Excellent hotel. Quaint facade restored to it's original beauty. We had a cosy room with river view. Service staff very attentive and helpful.
Our most memorable time was a cooking lesson from the restaurant's Celebrity Chef Melba. She generously shared with us the secret of making a delicious sambal sauce.

We stayed at the Majestic for 3 nights and had a great time. The building is beautiful and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and were very helpful. The highlight of our trip was the brilliant cooking class conducted by Chef Melba and Chef JR. Both were really passionate about Kristang cuisine and the cultural and heritage that stems from it. The class was hugely enjoyable and we learned a stule of cooking that isn't available in London. We took the opportunity to buy Chef Melba's cook book so we could take the experience home to the UK. Thoroughly recommended and we can't wait to come back.

Our stay here was a fantastic introduction to Malaysia. Our room had a good view and was beautifully appointed. The staff were excellent and so friendly and helpful. The welcome tea in your room is a lovely touch. It was my birthday and we had not mentioned this but still there were ribbons around my door and a special birthday pillow. We ate in the restaurant that night, were greeted by Melba the celebrity chef and treated to a cake. The pool is tiny but most welcome. The hotel walking tour was great - not only is it free but we were the only ones on it so we effectively had a private guide. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend if small heritage hotels are your preference.

I strongly considered another 5* establishment closer to the main sites but am oh so glad I stuck with my gut and picked the Majestic. Few thoughts below:

1. The lobby (mansion) is beautiful. I sat and read here for hours a day, it has an ambience that no bigger hotel can emulate.

2. The size; dwarfed by bigger hotels that surround it, the Majestic is small enough for you to feel like you are in your own space.

3. The pool is tiny but that doesn't really mean too much to me. If 5* facilitues are your thing, then maybe this hotel isn't for you.

4. As mentioned, the hotel is far enough from the main tourist sites to feel quiet, yet really is only a 10-15 minute walk away. Perfect if the louder backpackeresque scene isnt for you.

5. Skip the breakfast, you're in Melaka.. head out and experience local fare. Brekfast really seems to be the weak link.

All in all, it was fantastic. Only hotel worth staying in in Melaka (if budget allows of course).

This is a lovely little hotel. The service is great. When you arrive they welcome you with a cup of their special blend tea. Our travel agent had booked the hotel without breakfast but had told us it was with and when we showed them this they then included it for us at no extra cost. They also have a city tour that is included and that was very interesting and the guide did not hurry the tour but let it go half an hour over time. On the last day they stored our luggage for us and when we came back to collect it they gave us cold towels to refresh ourselves with. You can walk into Jonker street via the river or you can go via the streets which is shorter.
