We loved the old-style reception and library of the Majestic - very classy, and a great place to chill out or have lunch or a drink.
But it was also nice to go into our room in the new wing, with its rain shower and free broadband.
Best of both worlds, in fact.
One point for improvement: the breakfast buffet is good quality but low on choice.
Also it is worth noting that the hotel is not right in the most interesting part of Melaka. You can walk to the historic centre in 15-20 minutes, though in the heat that can be tiresome. Or take a taxi, for 15 ringit. The Casa del Rio seems to be an attractive hotel much closer to the main sightseeing and shopping area.
