Casa del Rio Melaka
Ranked #1 of 168 Hotels in Melaka
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 24 April 2012

We stayed one night at casa del rio in a deluxe river view bedroom. we were warmly welcomed by their helpful staff and everything has been perfect during our stay. The room was very satisfactory: rooms are big, bathroom had both a big bathtub and a big shower tub, and the balcony was just nice with a fan to reduce the heat of the evening. we would definitely recommend this hotel to travellers going to melaka.

Room Tip: Ask for bed(s) on the balcony in advance, as when the hotel gets fully booked you might not get one...

The place is new and the hotel is very nicely located, on the river, and a few minutes away from the old Melaka and from all Museums. The rooms was truly beautiful and certainly above our expectations, very large, originally set up and with nice furniture. The infinity swimming pool on the roof was superb as well, All together this would be worth a 5 stars review, weren't it for a slightly slow and complicated service. The staff is helpful and doing its best... which is unfortunately just below the expected standard in that kind of place! This translated in unnecessary long check in (although the girl on duty for checkout was highly efficient) or very slow breakfast service. Nevertheless our stay at Casa del Rio was very pleasant and from what we could appreciate this really seems to be the best place to stay in town. This comes to a rather high price for Malaysia though.

Upon arrival, our big group of 6 adults and 7 children were greeted with bowls of cool & yummy ginger lime sherbet and warm towels placed on a wooden tray with my name written on it! A+ for presentation!

We booked into the deluxe room. The room was huge for our family of 2 adults + 2 children (11 & 4 years old). The bathroom was also huge with a very big bathtub. They provided a bar of cinnamon soap which I liked so much, I bought a couple from the hotel shop. Instead of welcome fruit basket or chocolates, we received the local cake (ondeh-ondeh) on a platter. Our room was facing the river, alas it was during the revamp period for the river so only renovation works in sight. However, the night view was much better – river cruises with colourful lights. The infinity pool is a must for kids. The adults just love the refreshing cold water with tinge of cucumber and lemon & the lounger by the pool was really relaxing. Good place to watch the sunset.

Location is central as its near Malls (bout 10 mins walk) and 5 mins away from Jonkers Street (local delights, night market & must-have local desserts of variety of chendols). You can pretty much walk to the museums or historical parks.. we didn’t even use a cab once as its smack in the middle & everything is conveniently within walking distance.

The breakfast at River Café was royalty (in fact we bumped into a royal family having breakfast surrounded of course by bodyguards). You choose a main that will be cooked immediately (rather than already heated at the buffet line) & the starters & appertisers (those preserved fruits are addictive) are free flow. They have a fair share of local and international choices. For dinner, we ordered room service & it was also fantastic. The assam laksa is a must for spicy lovers (not the Penang clear sourish assam style, but really hot red assam gravy) & the wood-oven pizza was really nice with generous toppings.

Will definitely come back to Casa when in Malacca.

We stayed in the Casa del Rio March 23rd to 25th
Internet is included in the price although we only had it for the first night - apparently "the server was overloaded".
The location is great, within walking distance of most of Melaka's attractions.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The infinity pool is good and overlooks some of the attractions and the river. Unfortunately, the pool bar did not live up the hotel site's video; the bar was poorly stocked and we and others had to wait a long time while drinks were brought up from the ground floor bar.
We were also a bit disappointed in the room. While the room itself was OK, We booked a Studio King with "River View" - hotel speak for overlooking the lago with a partial view of the river from the balcony.
We had an enjoyable breakfast in the river grill which is part a la carte and part buffet.
We also had an enjoyable evening meal in the river grill plus tapas in the Bar Rio.

Room Tip: If you go for a room with river views, make sure that it is overlooking the river, not with partial...
