“A fun day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2012

If you are in the area, Anjuna market is a fun day out - especially if you are here for a week and want to see something besides the beach. It is very hot, but the market is shaded in some areas. They are very tough negotiatiors, so watch out. I wanted to buy a small kids t-shirt and the first price he quoted me was 600 rupees which is a very high starting price. We had a very funny, but very dramatic discussion and finally we got down to 250. I still feel that was too much... Also, sometimes the products they have on display are the worst of what they have, so if you like something ask to see other designs or mention how it is faded or missing pieces. I did this and the guy pulled out two huge bags of pristine product which were stunning compared to what was on the table. I go a little nuts when people grab me and try to get me to look at things, so I was on edge pretty quickly. They are relentless and don't understand that you hear the same exact thing from every single vendor. Combine that hassle with the heat, and it gets old a little fast. There are some cafes to take a break in though (shaded) and have a cool drink. Try to take your time and don't buy from the first vendors - there are so many stalls selling the same things. For solo female travelers, everyone was asking me where my husband was - annoying but I didn't feel unsafe. Still a good idea to be cautious. Overall worth the trip.

“Crowded”

We went there on a very hot day and it's quite a hike from where we parked to reach the market. It was only OK.

“Adventure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

First visit was through "Johns Boat Tours" but you only get a two hour visit. A good adventure.
Second visit, we went by 3 bus journey's and a treck across a field with bull's in, another adventure.
The market has grown over the past few year's, it has a good feel about it, and a good day out, get the boat back to Baga and bus to candolim it's quicker, 100r boat, 10r on bus. Haggle to a third of the price they offer, the indians will alway's sell the Tibbeten's will sod you off. Have a meal of noodles, and people watch the world go by. An excellent day out.

“Early birds get the bargains”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2012

Going early in the morning means that you avoid the hustle and bustle of the later shopping trade. Plus its cooler and you wont sweat as much.
