I have dined at Bonefish Grill in Huntsville several times, and generally found the food very good and service attendants respectful and prompt. However, our most recent dining experience to celebrate my wife’s mother’s birthday yielded barely average food and an officious waiter with an inflexible approach in addressing customer problems.
Three of the entrees we ordered included a meat, the “seasonable vegetable” (grilled sugar snap peas), plus another vegetable of our choice. The salmon I ordered was excellent, but the sugar snap peas (on all of our plates) were bitter and tough to chew, obviously old and perhaps frozen when they were grilled—add to that my “steamed” broccoli was actually room temperature and without any seasoning. When I requested our waiter exchange the snap peas for another vegetable (at no charge), he refused stating that the seasonable vegetable was not really a vegetable—the snap peas were actually a “garnish”, hence no substitutions for another menu vegetable. Really, the peas were a “garnish”? Question was, then where was the “seasonable vegetable” that was promised on the menu? No answer, only an exasperating look from the waiter and silence. We further requested our waiter have a manager visit with us, but the young man adamantly declined to elevate our complaint—with no rights of appeal, we dropped the issue. Being on the receiving end of condescending behavior during an important family celebration embarrassed me since I had recommended Bonefish for dinner. Given Bonefish Grill's ample menu prices, we had expected great food and respectful service, but on this one occasion, we got neither.
