Description: One of the oldest family hotspots on the Gulf Coast, the Original Oyster House is a must-go-to restaurant for fresh Gulf seafood, Southern hospitality and panoramic waterfront views. A top-spot for hand-shucked, baked and fire-grilled oysters, this restaurant became legendary for its homemade seafood gumbo, cheesy grits with blackened shrimp, whole flounder, Mahi Down on Da Bayou as well as handcrafted cocktails and desserts including its world famous Peanut Butter Pie. For over 37 years, the Original Oyster House has supported charitable organizations, military, area schools, athletic programs, churches scholarship programs as well as first responders. In 2016, it became the first restaurant in the state to recycle oyster shells through the Alabama Coastal Foundation and the only restaurant to grow stocker oysters for reef restoration.

I paid around $70 to eat here. I was disappointed. I got fried shrimp and it was nothing special....Red Lobster is better IMO.

Expect 1-2 hour wait for just ok food. The drinks and oysters were good, but all of our entrees were just barely better than a frozen meal. Definitely not worth the cost. We didn’t try the salad bar because there was food everywhere and it didn’t look clean. The boardwalk and shops were nice to hang out at during our wait.

Our new Gulf shores favorite. We ate here 2 nights in a row. Be prepared for a 2 hour wait but it’s worth it and most restaurants have the same wait. Enjoy drinks or local boardwalk shopping to help time pass. OYSTERS: hallelujah! Excellent raw!! Also had the Parmesan baked oysters and they are equally delicious. As entrees we enjoyed shrimp & grits, triggerfish, crab cakes & shrimps, shrimp augratin & some other Parmesan fish & shrimp (can’t recall name). Every bite is amazing!!!! Sides are very tasty - recommend the red beans & rice and cheese grits. We also went for $2.99 up charge for the salad bar - winner!!! So yummy and don’t skip the yeast roll. As if this wasn’t enough we also had the key lime pie - wonderful!! I’ll be dreaming about this food :)

We waited 1 1/2 hours. The fish was overcooked and the fried oysters were undercooked. I ordered a pasta dish from their favorites menu, but it was, also, overcooked. The salad bar was good, but nothing special. Definitely not worth the wait or going back to again. Our waitress was very good.

We had been here before several years ago and wanted to return this trip. Part of the experience should have received a 5 (oysters and service - great work Houston), however our entrees were all 3’s. Just average tasting and anything fried tasted like old oil. Would return only for oysters! They were large and served quickly! Plus we had some Parmesan garlic ones and enjoyed those as well!
