“Forgotten Heritage”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2012

Very few people of Kolkata visits this place, except perhaps the photographers who likes to capture the city's glorious past in 35mm. Otherwise also known as Stone Church was made from the medieval ruins of Gaur. The whole complex has many monuments of historical importance the most famous being the monument commemorating Black Hole of Kolkata.

“Many historical monuments in one place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2012

In addition to the church, which mostly is interesting because of its strange architecture, there are two important monuments in the garden outside the church. One for the Black Hole of Calcutta, and the other the mausoleum of the founder of Calcutta. Entrance for all is only 10 rs.

“Check out the painting of The Last Supper”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2012

This was a very interesting church to visit, particularly when you meet the guy there who plays the organ. He is very proud of the church and will tell you all about it's history. Ask him about the painting as it has a wonderful story behind it.

“Full of History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2012

The design of the church was based on St Martin-in-the Fields Church in London. Warren Hastings, Govenor of Bengal was married here and there is also the mausoleum of Job Charnock.
