One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Historic property oozing charm. The staff was consistently professional and yet very friendly. Wonderful concierge Mr. Sarkar who helped us plan everything from excursions to taxis to restaurants. Wonderful pool especially after a hot sweaty day in Kolkata. A fabulous spacious, clean room with antiques, wooden floors, huge bathroom. Excellent food and good value. We did the Indian restaurant and loved it. Walking distance to many of the major attractions of Kolkata. Loved the fact that they were able to arrange for a SIM card at the front desk without all the hassle you would have outside. The in-house tailor was just wonderful - he took care of some rips in the seam of my winter jacket. If you can believe it Oberoi did not charge me for this, but I of course gave him a nice tip. Shoes polished each day. Fruit left for us in the room. What is there not to like? This was my first Oberoi experience but I am now a convert. I think we will try their properties in Mumbai and elsewhere. Oberoi has it down with the perfect mix of hospitality and professionalism. They even sent me a personal email commenting on my customer satisfaction form I had filled out. You could tell they actually read it and were going to pass my compliments on to the staff I mentioned.

This was the best hotel we've ever stayed in due to the mix of old world character, luxury and superb service. They operate a 'centralised' tipping policy and no individual tipping of staff is allowed so none of the awkward wondering what's culturally appropriate. We both felt like honoured guests.

Expensive food and drink but worth it - the quality was very good. Breakfast was included in our rate and rivalled any in the world. Wonderful fresh juice and some delicious Indian specialities.

Room Tip: Garden and pool facing rooms have a nicer view and less road noise (although double glazing means it...

The Oberoi Grand seems to be the most intimate of the chain and one of our favourites. It is a low rise building focused on a central quadrangle where the pool is located. The Oberois are noted for their high service standards but this hotel stands out even so with a very warm staff who seem to want to do as much as possible for the guests. Richard the chef is keen to help at the breakfast buffet to get the most out of what is on offer and also assists in making selections. This also occurred at the Bahn Thai restaurant. The spa facilities are excellent with wonderful staff who giggle and offer excellent treatments.

Entering the hotel is like returning to the mother ship with all hassle and stress instantly removed. Noise levels are left behind and a calm environment envelops once. Location is second to none. Easy walks are available to the Indian Museum and memorials galore. It is safe to stroll in the Maidan. For the cricket enthusiast, Eden Gardens looms nearby.

It may seem churlish to state this but there are some areas which require refreshing. I have been to the hotel before and some factors stood out. The bar is souless. A pool or billiards table is stuck right in the centre which neutralises the area. The chairs and tables are arranged against the wall and the bar is located far away so that there is no ambience. Part of this may reflect the need to have a space for the jazz but this may be accommodated within a better designed space. The staff were wonderful. Please re-design.

Dear Trip Advisor Member,

It was a pleasure to have you stay at The Oberoi Grand Kolkata recently. Thank you for taking the time to review us on Trip Advisor.

The Oberoi Grand is referred to as the “Grand Dame of Kolkata” which depicts the old world charm and the Victorian culture and the hotel and its setting is indeed intimate. Our pool side rooms have a great view of the swimming pool which has often been termed as an “oasis” by most of the guest.

Baan Thai restaurant has been awarded as the best specialty restaurant of the city. The hotel is located next to the famous “New Market” of Kolkata. It is a preferred hotel of both our leisure and business travellers as it is located in the business hub of Kolkata. Our Chef - Richard has been delighted to receive the words of appreciation from you. We are grateful for your appreciation of the services provided by the team. Your words of appreciation shall go a long way to motivate them to continue to deliver a high level of service to our valued guests. I have noted your feedback regarding the ambience and layout of the Chowringhee bar. We will certainly consider making the changes during our hotel renovation which is on the anvil.

Thank you for having stayed with us and we look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back to The Oberoi Grand and Kolkata.

The hotel is beautiful both inside and out. It is well laid out overlooking a central courtyard.
The food is great although a little pricey and the staff are really friendly.
The rooms are comfortable, so you are guaranteed a good night's sleep.
It is a lovely hotel to come back to especially after a hectic day's sightseeing.
